5 Smash Hit Musicals Come to San Francisco

Five of Broadway's hottest musicals are coming to SF this year (four of which have never played in the city before) and seriously, with a line up this good you're not going to want to miss a single song.

Motown the Musical

Jam packed with over 60 Motown hits, this fresh-from-Broadway show tells the story of Berry Gordy (who created Motown in 1959 with an $800 loan from his father) and how he launched the careers of the legendary Diana Ross, Smokey Robinson and the Jackson 5, to name just a few. This mega-watt musical will have you dancing in the street or dancing in your seat….your choice.

Kinky Boots

Broadway’s sequined hit about love, acceptance, and unlikely friendship, Kinky Boots is the true, uplifting tale of one man’s journey to save his family’s business – with the help of a drag queen glamazon in need of some fabulous yet sturdy new stilettos. Filled with high kicks and even higher heels, Kinky Boots strutted away with 6 Tony Awards in 2013, including best musical. Plus, Cyndi Lauper who wrote the music and lyrics, made history as the first solo woman ever to receive the Tony for Best Score!

Kids and adults alike won't want to miss this captivating musical masterpiece based on the wildly popular novel by best-selling author Roald Dahl. Enjoy the show as super-smart Matilda bests her enemies, learns to move things with her mind, and finds her own happy ending.

Based on true events, Newsies tells the story of a band of underdogs who become unlikely heroes when they stand up to the most powerful men in New York. It's jam-packed with some serious talent, boasting some of the most explosive and heart-pounding choreography on Broadway.

Phantom of the Opera

The wait is over. The beloved story and longest running musical (ever!) has finally made its way back to San Francisco (pictured above). This is the perfect opportunity to introduce a new generation to the Broadway classic or just revisit an all new production of one of the greatest love stories for yourself. The SF production will be one of the largest on tour with a cast and orchestra of 52.
