Even in the rain, Big Sur is a remarkable place to explore. We holed up here recently on a particularly showery weekend, which didn’t stop us from exploring beaches and redwoods or foraging for high gastronomy. (It also didn’t stop us from bunkering in our room, fireplace ablaze, for cozy afternoons).

Beer lovers here have it pretty sweet. With 19 San Francisco brewers and dozens of craft beer bars in a 49-square-mile city, you’re never far from a world class beer. Those who appreciate a challenge can find it though, by seeking out special brews and events that are available in limited quantities, or at special times of year, or only if you know someone with inside information.
Per holiday tradition, it's customary to deck your house with loads of bright lights and ornamentation. Sadly, not many homes in San Francisco can do this, at least compared to the gaudiness that suburbia affords, but of those that do, they do it well.
