IRC Dinner and Humanitarian Awards

International Rescue Committee held its fifth annual Bay Area dinner and presentation of the Sarlo Foundation Distinguished Humanitarian Service awards at the St. Regis Hotel. Featured speakers at the event included author Dave Eggers and Sudanese refugee Valentino Achak Deng, who was the subject of Eggers’ book What Is the What.

Politically conscious rap duo Dead Prez (also known as Dead Presidents) brought their underground sound to Mezzanine on Sunday, September 30. Washington D.C. rapper Wale opened the show with his sharp lyrical skills and funk-infused beats.

High School Sex

Have you had those experiences—in your adulthood—when you’ve felt like you were having high school sex all over again?

Guy gropes breasts for two minutes, sticks his hand down pants for three-and-a-half, and next thing you know, you’re doing it (clothes on floor, panties at your ankles, etc.)

Seems we all get stuck in these sex ruts—like we studied what to do with the breasts, penis, vagina and mouth, and we stopped learning and adding to our repertoire after we graduated from sex ed.

For Christmas last year, I got Wine for Dummies, but I’ve yet to crack that sucker open. Now, I’m more inspired to dust it off as last week I attended two classes—Wine Tasting Deconstructed, beginner and intermediate—both offered through the Ferry Plaza Wine Merchant.

Singer/songwriter Elvis Perkins (son of actor Anthony Perkins, known best for his role in Hitchcock's classic horror flick Psycho) opened the bill.
