All Aboard Sausalito's Quirkiest Houseboats

By

Sausalito's funky community of houseboats has been going with the flow since the 1880s. We escaped from San Francisco to Richardson Bay to give you an up-close peek. Climb aboard!

Sausalito's Richardson Bay is home to around 500 unusual and colorful dwellings, each with their own interesting architecture, gardens, and sculptures, across 11 different docks. Two of the docks, Issaquah and Liberty docks, are open to the public yearround.

Swing by and check out the spot where, legend has it, Otis Redding wrote his famous "(Sittin' On) The Dock of the Bay" while staying in one of the houseboats.

To get there, exiting Gate 6 Rd. and Gate 5 Rd. from the northern end of Sausalito. Tours of the floating homes are offered in September
