Art Bikes up for Auction at the SF Fine Art Fair

By

Bicycle lovers, be sure to pedal your way down to Fort Mason for the opening of the San Francisco Fine Art Fair, where seven bike sculptures will be up for auction this weekend.

This year’s Art Fair launches with “ArtBike,” a showcase of seven bike sculptures designed by seven different artists. Renowned artists, including Ken Kalman and Gino Miles, were given the fun task of turning seven Public bikes into pieces of art—or less functional and more abstract art.

Among the collection of sculptural bicycles are Kalman's winged "Chariot of Fire," featuring metallic wings atop a white cruiser that evokes the feeling of flying down Twin Peaks on bike at sunrise (if you haven’t done that, add it to your bucket list. Or better yet, try it tomorrow). And Cyrus Tilton's "Fossil Fuel” (pictured above) that features the gorgeous excavated bones of a bicycle. If I can find the space in my apartment, I may be bidding on this one.

When you’ve had enough art and are ready to get back on your own bike sculpture and pedal down Crissy Field, and maybe do a loop through the Presidio before heading back home.
