Celebrate the best coast with Brilliant!Science: Incredible Ocean, a festival of programs presented by the California Academy of Sciences running through March 30th.

Discover the diversity that characterizes the California Coast and learn how we can protect the ocean through up close looks at intertidal zones, rocky reefs, and the nearby Farallon Islands. There's still time left to experience all this exhibit has to offer!

BioBlitz: Friday and Saturday, March 28 and 29

Ever been involved in a BioBlitz? It involves teams of volunteer scientists, families, students, teachers, and other community members working together to find and identify as many species of plants, animals, microbes, and fungi as possible. This work helps to document the local ecology and diverse food webs it supports. This year, the Academy partnered with National Geographic, the National Park Service, and Parks Conservancy on a special BioBlitz effort in the Golden Gate National Recreation Area, including a biodiversity festival at Crissy Field. Register ahead of time!

Conservation Photography Excursion: Sunday, March 30

Basically whale watching in our backyard. The annual gray whale migration is one of the world’s most magnificent and accessible wildlife spectacles. Each spring, thousands of gray whales migrate from their breeding and calving waters off Baja, California to their summer feeding grounds off the Alaskan coast. Their migration pathway closely follows the California coastline, providing outstanding opportunities for whale watching and photography as pods pass through the Gulf of the Farallones National Marine Sanctuary. Adrenaline rush, plus. Reservations: Members, $150; General, $175. Participants must be 18+ unless chaperoned by a parent or guardian; no children under 12. Seating is limited and advanced ticketing is required. Tickets can be purchased online or by calling (877) 227-1831.
