David and Amy Sedaris’ The Book of Liz at Custom Made Theater

Sister Elizabeth Donderstock's cheeseballs are all the religious community of Clusterhaven has left. But when they cease to appreciate her properly, Sister Elizabeth decides to take her cheese balls out into the great, wide world. Where she finds alcoholics, Ukrainians with cockney accents, mysterious peanuts, and that ever-elusive self respect. A quirky marriage of religion, alcoholism, and dairy products, The Book of Liz is David and Amy Sedaris' devilish take on the universal need to find one's bearings in a world that keeps shifting under your feet.

A regular on This American Life, David Sedaris wrote bestsellers Me Talk Pretty One Day and When You Are Engulfed In Flames. His sister Amy starred in Comedy Central’s Strangers With Candy. (You probably already know this.) The Book of Liz is their highly successful foray into playwriting - it's broken box office records for Custom Made that still hold and this year's rendition has just been extended for a month. So you still have a shot at vintage Sedaris - ridiculously and wrongly funny, with a nice dash of sweet absurdity.

Through August 21. Gough Street Playhouse, 1620 Gough St. Tickets are $20-$28 at custommade.org/tickets
