Elizabeth Taylor Tribute @ Castro Theatre
Elizabeth Taylor was one of the most respected people ever to grace Hollywood, an inimitable woman of ferocity and sophistication who stayed true to herself and her friends (ahem, Michael Jackson) until the end of her life. The Castro Theatre has put together quite the tribute to this Hollywood lioness, displaying her grandeur in 11 films spread across 6 days–from May 27 to June 1–that isn't just a celebration of the actress' body of work.
Because she was a tireless and crucial crusader in the fight against HIV and AIDS, the first night of this cinematic tribute, Friday May 27th, is a benefit for Project Inform, one of the nations' leading non-profits combating the diseases. Score tickets for $25 here, and you'll access to the Cat on a Hot Tin Roof–Suddenly, Last Summer double feature and a champagne toast.
For the rest, Castro Theatre is really digging deep into Dame Taylor's vaults. Look forward to rarities such as Raintree County (Liz doing her best Gone With the Wind), Boom! (Liz as a potty-mouthed, pill-popping crazy until Richard Burton comes along), and Secret Ceremony (Liz as a depressed prostitute). And of course, you'll get the classics like Giant, National Velvet, Who's Afraid of Virginia Woolf? and more. For the full schedule, click here.
