Get Lost With This Map of San Francisco

By

London-based illustrator Jenni Sparks spent a month living in the Mission District combing the city to collect information for her artistic specialty: hand-drawn maps.  Five months later, her newest creation is now available: a painstakingly detailed and personally quirky map of our beloved city, from the Golden Gate Bridge all the way south to Crocker Amazon.

All the big names you would expect (e.g., Alcatraz, AT&T Park, the Presidio) are there, but you’ll also find Sparks’ personal finds from her wanderings around SF, often caricatures of people she encountered on the streets.

More personal journal than cartographer’s masterpiece (why is Sutro Tower beside Twin Peaks?), the minutia captured in her renderings makes for a mind-boggling piece of art worthy of poring over with a magnifying glass.

Sparks previously created maps of Berlin, London, and New York City for online retailer Ever Made (thusly named because there are only 100 of any item ever made that they sell). The maps run £100, and if you place an order by September 22, 2014, Sparks will sign your print.

Watch the video below for a look at Sparks while she gathers intel for her map.
