This weekend marks the middle of summer. What better way to celebrate this halfway point than by heading north across to the Golden Gate Bridge, where the sun is always shining and the weather warm? Here are three things that are luring us North this weekend.
Celebrate Bastille Day in Napa
Vive la France! Saturday July 14 is the French national holiday and in honor of the revolutionary spirit, a number of wineries in Napa are celebrating in typical French style - with lots of fine wine and food! Etude are commemorating the French Revolution at by inviting you to sip on their finest Pinot Noirs, while indulging your taste buds with savory crepes. Relax on the patio or play pétanque on the lawn. Tickets are $20 and all inclusive. Meanwhile over at Domaine Carneros they are painting their chateau bleu, blanc and rouge for the day. Enjoy some sparkling wine aperitifs, French hors d'œuvres, and French and American musical favorites with a live jazz trio. Sweet treats and sparklers complete the soiree. Run a Marathon
Feeling fit? The Napa to Sonoma Wine Country Half Marathon provides 13 miles of stunning scenery to race through as you eye some of the awesome prizes on offer: 20 cases of wine and $2500 cash! The Marathon starts at 7 am and is open to anyone who can complete the 13 miles in under 3.5 hours. Once you’ve finished the race it's time to party at the Wine and Music Festival. Receive your finisher's medal, rehydrate and refuel, enjoy a massage, listen to some great music, and celebrate your accomplishment at Sonoma Plaza. Sommerfest at the German Tourist Club
Round out a weekend of Euro celebrations at the German Tourist Club. Every year during summer the Tourist Club, nestled deep in the Muir Woods, features a German styled Sommerfest, complete with live music and traditional German dance groups, BBQ and, of course, German style beer. To get to the Tourist Club you need to hike in, so give yourself at least an hour to traverse through the stunning Redwood forests that surround the chalet. There is a map and directions on the Tourist Club’s website. The Festival starts at 12 pm and continues into the evening.
