Unsure of what to do this weekend? Try out these ideas.

Learn About Squirrels
In Greek, skia means “shadow” and oura means “tail.” Put them together and you get Sciurus, the genus of squirrels! Come and learn about the shade-tails on this walk, lead by Lila Talcott-Travis, a longtime wildlife rehabber and student of squirrel morphology, natural history, and lore. Squirrels have achieved a place of distinction in European and English family crests as a symbol of retirement or retreat into the forest, something we all probably think about living in bustling Oakland. To find out more visit the Wild Oakland website.
When: Saturday, August 11 From 12-2 p.m.
Where: Fairyland Main Entrance near Lake Merritt: 699 Bellevue Ave, Oakland.

Colorful floats, historical themes and lively community contingents has helped build Pistahan Parade, as THE Filipino counterpart of San Francisco’s great cultural institutions like Chinese New Year Parade, Carnaval, St. Patrick’s Parade, among others.
