This Week's Hottest Events: Jay Z and JT, Science of Brewing, and Renegade Craft Fair
This group exhibit at Eli Ridgway Gallery reads like a "Best Of" showcase. Look for work by local stars Mauricio Ancalmo, Chris Duncan, Sean McFarland, castaneda/reiman, Matthew Palladino, and Rebecca Goldfarb. Take note of the summer's hallway project by Mark Benson—potted flowers squeezed onto too-close-to-the-ceiling shelves that bring up questions of constraint—and the Salt Water Battery experiment in the gallery's project space by Andrew McClintock.
When: Through Sat. 8/17
Where: Eli Ridgway Gallery, 172 Minna St.
Strawberries and Summer Herbs
Figure out the ins and outs of unique flavor combinations at CUESA's strawberry jam workshop. You'll start by making INNA Jams' classic Seascape Strawberry, and then you'll experiment on small batches with summer herbs like thyme and basil. Smell (and taste) the sweet success.
When: 5:30 - 7:30 p.m., Tues. 7/23
Where: Ferry Bldg. South Arcade (CUESA Outdoor Teaching Kitchen), 1 Ferry Plaza
The Science of Brewing
Learn the art and science of beer making at this week's nightlife with both talks and tastings. Jesse Friedman of Almanac Beer and Kim Sturdavant of Social Kitchen & Brewery will expound upon the benefits of local production, and Anchor Brewing Company head brewmaster Mark Carpenter will enlighten you about Anchor's long history in the Bay Area. But the night wouldn't be complete without a beer hall in the museum's African Hall, with samples from the likes of 21st Amendment, Pacific Brewing Company, Lagunitas, Drake's, Speakeasy, and more. We'll drink to that!
When: 6 - 10 p.m., Thurs. 7/25
Where: California Academy of Sciences, 55 Music Concourse Dr.
Bacon, Babes, and Bingo
This is one of those only-in-SF experiences. Where else would you find bingo lovers, music buffs, and burlesque aficionados in one place, with free bacon and grilled cheese sandwiches? You'll have to see it to believe it.
When: 7 p.m., Thurs. 7/25
Where: Cafe Du Nord, 2170 Market St.
Dana Carvey, Dennis Miller, and Kevin Nealon
This comedic trifecta of Emmy Award-winning laugh masters and SNL alum will be a veritable force at the Mountain Winery this Friday night. Start your weekend with side-splitting jokes of epic proportions.
When: 7:30 p.m., Fri. 7/26
Where: Mountain Winery, 14831 Pierce Rd., Saratoga
Jay Z and J.T.
Both highly anticipated Postal Services performances have been sold-out since they went on sale, but if you can't find an extra ticket on Craigslist, don't fret. Jay Z and JT are taking over Candlestick Park with a performance of Beyonce-like status.
When: 7:30 p.m., Fri. 7/26
Where: Candlestick Park, 490 Jamestown Ave.
Renegade Craft Fair
Get your local fix at the summer edition of this beloved craft fair. And if you're really on top of it, you can get some of your holiday shopping out of the way ahead of time.

Fitz & The Tantrums
The LA-based sextet have been making a splash since the release of their sophomore album More Than Just a Dream this May. Rolling Stone plastered them all over their Hot Issue, and The New York Times has called them "vivacious, bursting, and danceable." They're a little 60s, a splash 80s, and a whole lot of now.
When: 8 p.m., Sun. 7/28
Where: The Warfield, 982 Market St.
