San Francisco may have a hipster rep, but no one can mess with the hipster reputation garnered by the city of Portland thanks to the hit comedy Portlandia. The creators and stars of Portlandia Fred Armisen, Carrie Brownstein, and Jonathan Kriesel will chat and answer questions about the award-winning series in this SF Sketchfest event.

Geographer

Headlining their own U.S. tour this month, local indie rock band Geographer will blow in to the Fillmore to slowly melt the hearts of seasoned San Francisco music lovers. Continuing touring after releasing a new album, Myth, in 2012, the band brings its synth heavy, moody sounds to the city by the Bay.

Dave Eggers and Scholarmatch present First Generation Documentary 

Take movie night up a notch and be the first of your friends to see the award-winning documentary First Generation. Dave Eggers, the local author and founder of Scholarmatch, is hosting a screening and panel discussion about the crucial issue of access to education among low-income and first-generation students. The documentary chronicles the struggles of four high school students trying to break the cycle of poverty and attend college.

Alonzo King and Hubbard Street World Premiere

Enjoy the dynamic collaboration of LINES Ballet and Hubbard Street under the stylistic creation of Alonzo King. The show offers the opportunity to watch the world premiere of King’s newest piece in collaboration with Hubbard Street Dance Chicago. King is an award-winning director and choreographer who founded and currently directs LINES Ballet in San Francisco.
