This Week's Hottest Events: Portlandia, Woody Allen's Jazz Band, and NYE Party Mania

Fred Armisen and Carrie Brownstein

For those of you still in town and not praying for snow up in Tahoe, here are a few things to add to your calendar for this mellow week before the new year.

Tuesday, 12/27
Houdini: Art and Magic
The exhibit about the renowned magician and escape artist is soon coming to an end. It's one of the best shows (and certainly the most fun) in the city now, and this week is the perfect time to check it out.
When: through Mon. 1/16
Where: Contemporary Jewish Museum, 736 Mission St.

Wednesday, 12/28
Woody Allen and His New Orleans Jazz Band
Channel your inner New York self and New Orleans spirit for a classic jam session with Woody Allen and his jazz band. The collective's repertoire includes more than 1,200 songs, from pop tunes  and marches to blues and rag. But the coolest part? There's no set play list, and it's a surprise even to the musicians what Allen will call next. Who knew the famous filmmaker could also hold his own as a talented band leader and clarinetist?
When: 8 p.m.
Where: The Regency Ballroom, 1290 Sutter St.

Thursday, 12/29
Greg Proops
SF native and Whose Line Is It Anyway comedian is riding the wave of his The Smartest Man in the World podcast (it's No. 42 on iTune's top comedy podcast list). Catch him conversation-style as he records an episode live at Punch Line. Then, stick around for the funnyman's standup, which continues through New Year's Eve.

Where: Punch Line Comedy Club, 444 Battery St.

Friday, 12/30
