Poof! The chance to snag a ticket or two to Arcade Fire's Big Sur show came and went....in about one minute. If you spent the morning jittery with anticipation and constantly refreshing the Henry Miller Memorial Library's Events page and were greeted with the opportunity to add your name to the "waitlist," join the club. Several of our officemates suffered the same fate.
At what point do you disclose an STD and how? I have genital herpes and seldom have outbreaks, but I haven't told my boyfriend of three months. We've been through HIV testing, we're monogamous, and I'm on the pill, so we don't use condoms anymore. With the treatments available, I won't likely give it to him, but not telling him seems dishonest.
Just when you thought you'd heard everything from Bay Area favorites, Geographer, The Limousines and Wallpaper go and remix two of their biggest hits. Tricycle Records re-released Geographer's Animal Shapes today with the two added bonus tracks. The "Kites (The Limousines Remix)," and "Paris (Wallpaper Remix)" are available on iTunes and through their label. Sample the new club bangers by streaming them below, or go celebrate with Geographer at their in-store Amoeba Berkeley performance tonight.
You know you love Gilbert and Sullivan. Go on. Admit it. Or you’re at least mildly curious, given all the Gilbert and Sullivan-inspired dialogue in early seasons of The West Wing. Luckily for you, Lamplighter’s Theatre proffers what LA Weekly calls the “best Gilbert and Sullivan in the country.” It also, in this particular instance, proffers singing pirates.
Casiokids have been rocking Norway for 5 years with their sunny, casio-driven, electro-pop, but Norway couldn’t keep the band all to themselves forever. Their latest release, Topp Stemning På Lokal Bar on Polyvinyl Records, is the group’s US debut, launching their buzz from across the pond into the states. Despite their geographic distance, they manage to find themselves stateside quite a bit. They rocked SXSW and CMJ and now they’re back again on their very own mini headlining tour. Casiokids are known for their theatrical live shows and they’ll be hitting San Francisco’s Cafe Du Nord on August 18th.
Alice Waters and local nonprofit Garden for the Environment have been hard at work at Levi's Workshop on Valencia Street. They've been designing up art for Edible Schoolyards, her Chez-Panisse Foundation-helmed project that aims to get kids dirty in the garden and foster a sustainable food mentality from an early age. The poster design will help to brand Edible Schoolyard projects around the country. Head out to Levi's Workshop this Friday to see the unveiling!
You've done your time at the Mint and the Silver Cloud, but now it's time for the big leagues. American Idol auditions are going down this Thursday at AT&T Park. Pre-registration is happening now (tables opened at 7 am this morning and will remain open until Thursday at 8 am) so chug some lemon tea and honey and get yourself down there for judgement day.
