Electric Fun

photography by Misha Vladimirskiy

"Born in the dust-laden family garage with archaic samplers, Radio Shack mics and broken record players, Mute Math have been noisily calculating their notes for the past few years. This electro-alt rock collaboration ... has crept up on the music scene with the onslaught of a worldwide fan-base driven to their website from countless video blogs and non-stop touring." So say the quartet comprising Mute Math, who hit Slim's last week along with The Cinematics and Someone Still Loves You Boris Yeltsin.

Portland-based indie-psychedelic-pop rockers Viva Voce opened for The Shins at the Warfield last week. According to Pitchfork, The Shins' latest album "Wincing the Night Away is a lovely and well-executed album and—for the first time in the band's career—nothing more."

L.A.-based indie band Silversun Pickups rocked out at The Independent with Sea Wolf, whose debut EP is due out next month; both groups are on the Dangerbird Records label. SSPU is playing the Empire Polo Field at blowout music fest Coachella, and will then continue on tour through the U.S. and across the Atlantic to the U.K.
