Amongst a mellow head bobbing crowd, there's always a few showing off their spasm-like dance skills, thrusting their shoulders and flinging their hair close enough to smell what shampoo they use. Then again, personal space doesn't exist at standing room only shows, so a scuff on your new kicks is usually excused and well worth the sacrifice when FMTM is headlining.
The bi-coastal SF-NYC natives rocked the house at Bottom of the Hill Thursday night in celebreation of Noise Pop. Francis Choung, Sergio Robledo-Maderazo, and Matthew Solberg make up the experimental collective. The name From Monument to Masses derives from the thought that it's our desires and struggle to change that create revolution. In this case we'll say that FMTM doesn't influence us, but inspires us.
They performed tracks from School of Thoughts Contend, including crowd favorite, "Deafening" and introduced a new track from their latest album, On Little Known Frequencies, which is available now on iTunes. If you haven't yet ripped it from the internet, show your support for independent music as their fourth release drops in stores March 10. At the end of the night we wished it wasn't over, as the crowd chanted for one more song, extending the show another twenty minutes.
They'll be touring with Dredg again this Spring, beginning April 3. As of now there's nothing scheduled for San Francisco, but we hope they come home again seen as both bands are from the Bay Area.
