Opera Fans Take Over the Ballpark

By

San Francisco Opera will hold its annual simulcast from Civic Center in AT&T Park this Friday, June 5. This year's piece is Puccini's three-act drama Tosca, a sordid tale of deception, sexism, and betrayal, complete with a love triangle! Admission is free, but if you RSVP ahead of time, print your ticket, and remember to bring it, you'll get "preferred" admission starting at 6:30 while the general public waits until 7. Pre-registering is also your best shot at getting a seat on the field. Show starts at 8(ish).

If the weather is anything like last year's simulcast of Lucia d'Lammermoor, bring your winter layers. Also remember that while admission may be free, you'll have the honor of paying ballpark prices for concessions, so if you plan to fill your belly with garlic fries, drown your Puccini-induced sorrow in beer, or drink enough hot chocolate to maintain a healthy body temperature, be sure you're ready to shell out some cash. Show your date you're not a cheapskate for bringing him or her to the free opera by ordering a picnic basket for two from Giants catering for $75 (orders must be places by noon June 2, which by the time you're reading this is probably today). Beverages are allowed in unopened, sealed soft-bodies plastic bottles only. No booze, no coolers.

SF Opera's Tosca cast features Adrianne Pieczonka as Floria Tosca, Roberto Aronica as painter Mario Cardavassi, and Lado Ataneli as Baron Scarpia, chief of police.
