Pina Bausch Film Series Dances into YBCA

By

If you dig films and dancing, the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts has the perfect film series for you: To the Limit: Pina Bausch on Film delivers the legendary German choreographer Pina Bausch to audiences during a hefty 24-day, six-film run in their screening room. Bausch, whose credits include work with Federico Fellini and Pedro Almodóvar, passed away last year but left behind her amazing gift for blending Dadaism, Existentialism and Expressionism with theatre and dance in a whirlwind of intense emotion on film. You can catch documentations of Bausch's dance troupes at work breaking barriers of theatrical convention in films such as On Tour with Pina Bausch by Chantal Akerman, Bausch's The Complaint of the Empress and the dark and controversial Bluebeard. The dangling carrot is the U.S. premiere (and Berlin Film Festival 2010 favorite) of Dancing Dreams, a look at 40 teenagers who have never heard of Bausch chosen to be a part of her performance of Kontakhof. Bausch, a true theatrical iconoclast, has a brave legacy of work that we could all take notes from.
