Three Titans of Modern Rock Art Converge @ Space Gallery Tonight

By

Taking whimsical cues from the psychedelic art scene's earliest days in the 60s and 70s, three renowned, local contemporary rock artists are coming together for a special group show at Space Gallerytonightat 7 pm, perfect for music fanatics and lovers of San Francisco lore. Oh, and there will be a live acoustic performance by Howlin Rain!

Alan Forbes, David D'Andrea and Stacie Willoughby are combining their staggering talent for mixing the boundless heart and soul of music with the emotional, abstract and out-of-this-world imagery it evokes in this show, entitled Archaic Revival for all to experience. It'll be a collection of images that you almost feel like you can hear, as well as see.

Take Forbes, for instance: you've seen his art on albums for the Black Crowes (he designed their logo and will create the series of Fillmore posters for their 6-day stint there), the White Stripes, and the Misfits. David D'Andrea's ferocious, highly-detailed work illustrates the moods of legendary bands like Sleep, Dinosaur Jr. and the Jesus Lizard. Stacie Willoughby's drippy, earthy drawings have adorned show posters for Dead Meadow and awesome local act Sleepy Sun.

Each has their own singular vision of how music splashes itself onto paper, both unique in style but also in homage to the West Coast art scene's psychedelic roots. Drop by Space Gallery tonight and meet these artists who have already joined the art rock pantheon. For more info on the artists and their manifestos, click here.
