Here’s 7 not-to-miss A+E happenings this week.

1.   Headlands Benefit Auction
Support one of the Bay Area’s best kept art world secrets and potentially score your own prized possession by such artists as Chris Ballantyne, Thomas Campbell, Reed Danziger, Lead Pencil Studio, Yoon Lee, Barry McGee, Leslie Shows, Shinique Smith, Hank Willis Thomas, William T. Wiley and more on Thursday, June 12 at the Headlands Benefit Auction.

2.  Surfwise Opens Today
Doug Pray’s documentary Surfwise takes an inside look at the unconventional lives of the Paskowitz family, headed up by patriarch and octogenarian surf legend Dr. Dorian “Doc” Paskowitz, who, along with his wife Juliette, raised nine children on the beaches of Southern California, Hawaii, Mexico and Israel. Opens Friday, June 13, at Landmark’s Embarcadero Center Cinemas.

3.  Superstition Obstacle Course at the Exploratorium
Are you afraid of walking under a ladder? Perhaps breaking a mirror and the ominous threat of seven years of bad luck sends you core-shaking shivers? Starting appropriately on Friday, June 13, the Exploratorium invites guests to confront and challenge many culturally ingrained superstitions at their Superstition Obstacle Course. Look out for that black cat! Through September 1.

4.  Chihuly at the de Young Museum
In his first major SF exhibit, legendary glass artist Dale Chiluly will present new and archival works—including breathtaking installations made specifically for the show—at the de Young starting Saturday, June 14.

5. Paid Dues Festival
Looking for the ultimate music festival to kick off the summer? With a rotating roster of formidable MCs—including Mos Def, De La Soul, Rakim and Hieroglyphics—the Paid Dues Festival on Saturday, June 14 at the Berkeley Community Theater is the place to be. 

6.  North Beach Festival
The summer-synonymous street fair formula of eating, drinking and merrymaking in the street may be hard to improve upon—that is until you’ve experienced the ultimate ‘hood block party in the scenic and historic North Beach neighborhood. On Saturday, June 14 check out the North Beach Festival complete with live music, plenty of great eats and the it’s-only-cool-in-North Beach celebrity pizza toss.

7.  Frida Kalho at SFMOMA
SFMOMA takes a look at artist Frida Kahlo—showcasing her folkloric paintings as well as a rare selection of her private photos—mounting a retrospective timed to the centennial of her birth. Opens Saturday, June 14.
