2.  Poems Under the Dome on Wednesday, April 30
Get the Poet Laureate treatment at Poems Under the Dome. This early-evening event invites the public to read poetry—original or a classic favorite—at City Hall to mark the end of National Poetry Month. Berets optional.

3. Joy Division at the Roxie New College Film Center
Take a rare glimpse at the untold story of Joy Division with this moving documentary that features previously unseen live footage, raw interviews with former members Peter Hook, Bernard Sumner and Stephen Morris as well as Factory Records founder Tony Wilson. Joy Division plays from Friday, May 2 – Thursday, May 8.

4. The Rape of the Sabine Women at SFMOMA
This experimental video-musical reinterprets the founding of Rome through a classic operatic structure and a stylized look that resembles a’60s spy flick. Catch The Rape of the Sabine Women for its opening night screening and performance on Thursday, May 2 and Friday, May 3. The screenings run through June 27.

5. The Little Prince at Zellerbach Hall
Watch Antoine de Saint-Expéry’s whimsical tale come to life as the San Francisco Opera sets this classic childhood favorite to the music of Academy Award-wining composer Rachel Portman. Ends Sunday, May 11.

6. Maker Faire at the San Mateo Fairgrounds on Saturday, May 2
This isn’t your typical fair: with crazy inventions, incredible exhibitions and crafts galore this two-day fest is a DIY enthusiasts’ dream come true. Whether you want to learn how to make your own shoes, learn molecular gastronomy or make chocolate with Scharffen Berger, there is something at the Maker Faire for everyone.

7. Cinco de Mayo Festival at Dolores Park on Saturday, May 2
Celebrate Cinco de Mayo in true SF style at Dolores Park in the heart of the Mission District. Mariachi bands, Aztec dancers and plenty of too-good-to-miss food will make this a great event for you and your buddies or the entire family.
