Aussie fashion designer Elizabeth Charles celebrated the opening of her first West Coast boutique in SF's Pacific Heights neighborhood. Her other U.S. store is located in Manhattan's Meatpacking District.

Rucci Opens at Sorokko

Fashion designer Ralph Rucci kicked off his art show last week at the Sorokko Gallery. Rucci, the first American in 50 years to be invited to show his line with the Paris Haute Couture collections in 2001, has recently focused his efforts on his art, including fabric and sewing techniques in a number of his works.

Girls Who Like Boys Who Like Boys

A reception at the Dolby residence celebrated Girls Who Like Boys Who Like Boys, a collection of essays tackling the subject of the special relationship a straight girl has with her best friend, a gay male. Best friends Melissa de la Cruz and Tom Dolby were the book's editors.

Rock Candy

Celebrity jeweller Stephen Webster, named the UK's Luxury Jewelry Designer for three consecutive years, showed his rock-star wares at a luncheon held at The Rotunda at Neiman Marcus. Trendsetting collections include Crystal Haze, Rock 'n' Roll and Femme Fatale.

Pac Heights Showcase

The 2007 SF Decorator Showcase recently held a gala allowing sponsors to preview the work of more than 35 leading Bay Area interior and landscape designers at 2901 Broadway in Pacific Heights. Public tours, which benefit SF University High School's financial aid program, run through May 28; for more information, go to decoratorshowcase.org.

Jazz Divas

In celebration of Jazz Appreciation Month, the W Hotel and Jazz Diet Pepsi hosted "The Lovely Ladies of Jazz" photo exhibit and live performance on Wednesday night. SF's own jazz diva Lavay Smith belted out some soul-satisfying tunes as folks perused Kareem Black's photographs featuring top female jazz performers amd benefiting the Jazz Foundation of America.

New Leaf Turning

New Leaf, which serves lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and questioning individuals along with their families, held its Spring Gala at the festive Teatro ZinZanni last week with celebrity guests comedienne Marga Gomez and singer/songwriter Mark Geigle as well as Katya Ludmilla Smirnoff-Skyy (accompanied by Trauma Flintstone) and Kielbasia (billed as "SF's favorite accordian playing lunch lady").

Honoring "Rock Stars" and CEOs

The Exploratorium's 30th Annual Awards Dinner honored a wide range of folks, from "rock star" (aka paleontologist) Ken Miller to Carol Bartz, former CEO of Autodesk. Nobel laureates rubbed elbows with corporate executives and high-society philanthropists including Stanford's Don Glaser, Intel's Paul Otellini, Mitzi Perdue (of Perdue chickens) and Bill and Ute Bowes.
