Greetings from Paris (Not Yet a Smoke-Free Zone)

Happy New Year!

I’m sending this e-missive from the City of Lights. That’s right, Paris, a city rich with history, romance and nicotine! The French certainly love to smoke, and I have the smelly, leftover stench of nicotine on my clothes to prove it!

On New Years Day, a no smoking ban was imposed here, which is good news for non-smokers like me. “Par Fumer” signs were posted on bars, cafes and restaurants across this charming smoke-filled city. However, in typically defiant French fashion, everyone is still smoking, and as smoked-filled bars and cafes are part of the culture here this ban will not take full effect overnight.

A Photo Postcard from London

Greetings from London, England, my hometown:

I’m enjoying a week on my home turf, and it is good to be here: gray skies, London cabs, red buses. It’s a city packed with tourists as they prepare to ring in the New Year.

Happily, I leave London today for Paris but I wanted to share a few photos from my London with you.

Happy New Year and may 2008 bring us new hope, a new White House and peace.

British-American Christmas Bash

Greetings,

Boy, do Brits know how to throw a Christmas party or what? They’re especially good here on American soil, and this past week British-Americans proved they know how to do it best.

The Westin St. Francis Hotel in downtown San Francisco was the setting on Tuesday for the 44th Annual BABC Christmas Luncheon, and it was Festive with a capital “F.”

Dewey Cox Rocks The Great American Music Hall

photography by Rick Camargo

Greetings Chums,

“Everyone loves Cox.” That’s what actor John C. Reilly bellowed from the stage as he performed for one night only as the legendary Dewey Cox.

This was no ordinary rock concert, it was pants down, one of the most rip-roaringly funny and brilliant live performances I have ever witnessed.

Energy 92.7’s Anniversary Blast

photography by Steve Wyrostock

Energy92.7 is the little radio station that could, and on Saturday, it celebrated another successful year as San Francisco’s most successful independent radio station. The Energy diehards packed the Regency Theater for an evening of block-bustin’ beats from DJs and live performers.

Guys and Gals of Movember

Greetings,

The month of November became “Movember”, and the moustache-sporting masses gathered at Ruby Skye for one fun-loving, mo-tastic evening.

Enjoy the pics!

Dinner With Anthony Bourdain

photography by Rick Camargo

Chef, TV star, writer, new dad, and raconteur Anthony Bourdain rolled into town recently as part of his No Reservations book tour. He made many appearances around the Bay Area, and everywhere he went he was greeted like a rock star—lines around the block for every book signing or dinner.

Cirque du Soleil Triumphs

photography by Rick Camargo

The masters of the modern circus premiered Kooza, the new Cirque du Soleil show, under the big top at AT&T Park San Francisco on Friday. As with every Cirque show, it was spellbinding, mesmerizing, it was all I hoped it would be and more.

Harvest Party at the Ranch

photography by Rick Camargo

Greetings friends,

McEvoy Ranch in Marin County was the stunning setting this weekend for the annual McEvoy Harvest Party. Nestled deep in the Marin countryside, a mile or two from Petaluma, this is the “must-attend” event of the year. I went with my dear friends Lauren Williams and John Peake.
