Is the Raffle House in Marin Your Dream Home?

We here at 7x7 and California Home + Design can get pretty excited about a good home raffle, so when I first saw a commercial for this year's Dream House contest from Community Action Marin, I took to the website immediately. What would this year's dwelling look like? Is it worth my hard-earned cash for a ticket (or three)? Here's what I found...

How to Prevent A Gas Leak In Your Own Home

The devastating fire that erupted in San Bruno last week is at the forefront of many of our minds. Along with concerns for the victims and families displaced by the flames, we keep thinking about prevention and detection measures to take at home. Read more. . .

Craigslist Deal of the Week: $1795 Russian Hill 1 Bdrm

Like all living things, humans are dependent on the sun. Hard to believe, living in this city, right? If the fog doesn't squelch those golden rays, your railroad-style apartment most certainly will. Instead, pick a place like this week's Craigslist Deal that makes sure to let every sparkling drop of sunshine in.

Bay Area-Based Modify/d Makes Pillows Perfect For Fall

If there's one thing to love about fall, it's the chance to break out all those cozy sweaters that have been sitting patiently in the back of the closet. While I love (love) warm weather, there's just nothing like fall fashion's warm knits to get me excited about the change of seasons. But while outfitting myself is fun, it's dressing my home that's my passion. So what's the interior design equivalent of pulling on a new sweater? Read more. . .

Craigslist Deal of the Week: $1500 Glen Park In-Law

After a blissful long weekend vacation, sometimes the return to S.F. can be a bit of a rude awakening. Come home from a relaxing wine country excursion to find yourself in the midst of a screaming match on Haight, and you wonder why it is you ever left that quiet, sunny vineyard at all. (Can you tell I'm speaking from personal experience?) Yeah, living in the city is the best, but sometimes city living gets old.

Craigslist Deal of the Week: $1650 Cole Valley 1 Bdrm

It's gorgeous days like this that make me want to be as close to the park as possible at all times. My plan is to pretty much live there for the sunny season, without, you know, actually having to live in the park. If you've got similar inclinations, this week's Craigslist Deal might be the perfect place to rest your head.

Terrarium Hunting @ Paxton Gate

Terrariums have blown up into a major trend in home gardening over the past few years, with everyone from the New York Times to Martha Stewart (erm, not to mention Jeffery Tambor) taking a crack at them. It's no wonder they're so well loved; terrariums are a cinch to put together, need little maintenance, and can be made in just about any vessel you like. These days they come in all shapes and sizes, from elegant apothecary jars to recycled spaghetti sauce containers. But my new favorite is the Wardian case. Read more. . . .

Craigslist Deal of the Week: $1445 Corona Heights 1 Bdrm

We usually harp on about apartments that are centrally located, but the main appeal of this week's Craigslist Deal is in the fact that it's ever so slightly removed.

Not that you'll be on the outskirts of the city mind you, it's just that, tucked away behind Buena Vista Park and next to Corona Heights Playground, this one bedroom unit feels like a quiet little oasis in the center of town.

Point Reyes-based Coyuchi Makes Cozy, Organic Bedding

Apologies, but I'm a little slow on the uptake this week. I'll blame it on a busy weekend that culminated on Sunday with hours of rocking out at Outside Lands. It was fun, but my residual tiredness might be proof positive that I'm getting too old to be burning the candle at both ends.

Craigslist Deal of the Week: $1775 Sunny Richmond 1 Bedroom

A lot of people rag on the Outer Avenues. Whatever. The fewer people who know of all the hidden badass spots out there, the better. Take this week's Craigslist Deal for example, located at 29th and Geary in the Outer Richmond. Sure, you could live in the Mission and spend the better part of your weekend in line waiting for a scoop of ice cream to take back to cramped Dolores Park, but doesn't it sound way better to step out your front door and walk to the Legion of Honor, Baker Beach, Sea Cliff, the Presidio, or, of course, glorious Gold Gate Park?
