Too Pretty to Eat: Wallpaper Cookies from Miette

I may be a little late on this one, but couldn't resist sharing these lovely cookies from Miette. The bakery/candy store is practically perfect in every way, from their craveable cakes to their downright deliciously designed shop. And while it's always been apparent that the candy-colored decor was influenced by the goods sold within, perhaps it was only a matter of time before the interior design swayed the look of the sweets. Craigslist Deal of the Week: $1775 Studio in Pac Heights

Your motto is, "Let's keep things open". You don't like to commit, whether it be to a pile of furniture or a landlord, and long-term leases make you to break out in hives. Yet everywhere you turn people are asking for a mimimum of one year devoted to an abode. What's a commitment-phobe to do? Forget those lengthy leases and opt for this week's Craigslist Deal instead.

INSTUDIO: Interior Design for all Budgets

There's something that separates San Francisco's INSTUDIO from many other design firms out there. Maybe its their transparency in pricing–rates are laid out crystal-clear on their website–or the fact that they often use elements already in a client's home to create an updated look while saving on costs. Are Communes Making a Comeback?

Could communes be making a comeback? That's the question I kept asking myself while watching Etsy's video tour of La Selva, a shared living space located in Watsonville, CA. Owned by public radio producer Nikki Silva and eight other people, La Selva is a collective of three families sharing 10 acres of property overlooking Monterey Bay. Read more...

Get the Look: The Perfect Pantry

This pantry has me feeling all sorts of jealous. First of all, just to have enough space for a room solely devoted to food storage makes this city dweller envious, but to also have one so well organized, so tidy, so practically perfect in every way–sigh, what can I say? I want. But while I may not have the square footage for my own storeroom, I can collect some inspiration from this lovely larder to replicate the look in my humble kitchen. Read more...

Bud Vases: Our Spring Obsession

There are plenty of occasions when an overflowing bouquet of flowers is called for–take last weekend's Mother's Day for example–but the cost adds up quickly if you like to keep a bunch of blossoms around the home on a regular basis. That doesn't mean you need to forgo flowers though. Instead, pick one or two stems and showcase them in a lovely vase. You'll be surprised how far just a few flowers can go to making a home feel pulled together.

Craigslist Deal of the Week: $1150 Hayes Studio

You've done the roommate thing for far too long. All told you've been shacking up with others for almost the entirety of your twenties, and while the situation has had its perks (lower rent; easily accessible friends; possible love interests) it also has had its pitfalls (other people's sex noise; no alone time; ill-fated love interests). Needless to say, you're ready for a change. But other than moving to the East Bay or holing up in a flophouse on Market, you'll be hard-pressed to find even a studio in the city for around what you're used to paying. Lucky for you, this week's Craigslist Deal has you covered.

Craigslist Deal of the Week: $1595 Studio in Russian Hill

All hail the glorious sun! This past weekend's phenomenal weather made me want to worship that giant star much like the Aztecs, thanks to its spirit-lifting (and pasty leg-annhilating) powers. Even on typical city days where you'll only find a bit of sol peeking through a thick sheet of fog, I'll take what I can get. But that's easier said than done here where railroad-style apartments are in abundance and many units offer just one lone window at the end of a long corridor, providing more of a reminder of sun, rather than actually delivering any. I'm thankful then that there are places like this week's Craigslist deal to be had.

Local Letterpress for Mom

I wasn't lying when I said I'll be doing it up big this Mother's Day (May 9th, if you haven't gotten your act together), and along with my ultimate gift extravaganza I've been on the hunt for the perfect card to convey my love for my mama. And what better way to do so than with one of my favorite mediums: Letterpress! Read more...
