I Can't Say No to Stackable Bowls from the Curiosity Shoppe

I need someone to tell me no more often. Today for instance, I convinced myself that I simply had to go downtown and pick up some things for my bathroom; purchased said items, then magically ended up in Anthropologie... and the rest is history, as written all over my bank statement. Perhaps just one more purchase to quell my shopping woes: this set of stackable bowls from the Curiosity Shoppe. Read more...

Craigslist Deal of the Week: $890 Furnished 1 Bdrm in Noe

First apartments can be daunting. When I first moved to San Francisco it was with little more than a few pots and pans and a sheet set to my name. My first place in town consisted of a mattress on the ground (sans box spring), a chair, and a desk–and it stayed that way for longer than I care to admit. Yes, with so much to see and do in a new city, setting up your home in a timely fashion can feel overwhelming. Lucky for you, this week's fully-furnished Craigslist Deal will take care of all that pesky decorating, and at under $900, no less.

Serena & Lily's Bazaar Offerings

It is almost without fail that when I flip through a catalog I'll notice something absolutely perfect for my home... only to realize it's the one thing on the page that's not for sale. Curse those stylists, who always seem to procure exactly what I'm looking for! You've got to wonder why the buyers don't catch on and market all that good stuff, but of course, then it wouldn't be as cool; after being restyled for mass-production, the exceptional quality of whatever it was that was worth coveting would have been lost. Luckily, online retailer Serena & Lily understands this Catch-22. Read more...

Oakland's Big Pagoda Close-Out Sale

Here's a sad one: Big Pagoda, the Oakland-based, Asian-inspired furniture store will soon be shutting its doors. The brand has been carrying a nice mix of contemporary designs and authentic vintage pieces in the Bay Area for the past 15 years, so no doubt they'll be sorely missed. Read more...

Spice Up Your Correspondence with Jonathan Adler's New Stationery

Correspondence these days is typically relegated to the holidays. Christmas cards, thank you notes, New Year’s updates – it all gets squashed into a period of a few weeks, then promptly disappears until next year. But this spring, I’m looking to turn a new leaf. Instead of sticking to email, I’m going lo-fi and returning to crisp, colorful letterpress cards. Everybody likes receiving a little something in the mailbox that isn’t a bill, but to be honest, I’ve got less than selfless intentions: I’m probably more excited to pick out the prettiest notes I can find than anyone will be to receive them. On my short list of lovely letterpress? Read more...

Craigslist Deal of the Week: $1550 Sunset 1 Bdrm

Living near inexpensive food options is crucial for workaholics, the cooking-challenged... pretty much everyone who needs a break from the kitchen from time to time. This week's Craigslist deal is located smack in the middle of cheap food central - and best of all, it's all really fricking good. At 20th and Irving, you're on the same block as one of the best pho places in the city (that's PPQ, if you're wondering) and within blocks of both Marnee Thai locations; Arizmendi is a short walk, as are crave-worthy burritos (Gordo's), hangover-curing greasy spoons (Art's), and legendary chicken wings (San Tung).

Craigslist Deal of the Week: $1595 Washington Square 1 Bdrm

Oh, Mama's. We'd gladly trek across the city for a plate of your French toast, but with this week's Craigslist deal, we wouldn't have to. Located just half a block from Mama's brunch spot and Washington Square, this North Beach cottage is the perfect location for late morning brunches and leisurely strolls–two necessities for happy living, says us. Relax on the unit's private deck, then head inside to a newly renovated kitchen, complete with dishwasher and gas stove (the ad also lists "reefer" as a kitchen area bonus–um, you'll have to ask about that on the tour).

BellJar's Celebrates Two Years with 'Cupcakes and Creatures'

Mission boutique BellJar may be another year older, but it's just as chock-full of gorgeous, well selected home decor as ever. Friday marks a perfect time to stop in and peep out their current wares, as they'll be celebrating their second year in the biz with a big-time blowout. Sip on a cocktail, nibble on a few mini-cupcakes from yummy Mission Minis, and get ready for your close-up with some glamour shots in the on site vintage photo booth.

Paxton Gate & The Academy of Sciences Team Up This Thursday

Paxton Gate has always seemed more like a creepy-cool natural science museum than store, what with its displays of stuffed critters, slithering plants and other curiosities, so it makes perfect sense that they'd pair up with the California Academy of Sciences for an event. This Thursday (March 11th), head to the Academy for a night of scientific exploration, courtesy of Paxton Gate's diverse collection of "treasures and oddities inspired by the garden and the natural sciences".
