Sales Talk

Baby, it’s still a little cold outside. So why not stock up on your winter wardrobe when retailers have slashed prices? They’re making room for new spring collections, which start trickling in early February, so if you’ve been holding out for that perfect coat, cozy sweater or pair of boots, now is the time to buy. Start this weekend—I’ve scouted out some serious end-of-the-season sales at a few of my favorite shops around town.

New Year’s Spa Treatments

For Glamwatch’s end-of-the-year posting, guest blogger and 7x7 editorial assistant Sydney Pfaff has scoured the city for her post-New Year’s-partying relaxation picks. Check out these 7 sweet spots that will help you look and feel like a whole new you.

Among all the streamers and sparkles, the new year brings something we all dread: bills, bills and more bills. Instead of stressing out, pay a visit to Kabuki Springs & Spa for a quick session of acupuncture ($80), an ancient Chinese treatment that is guaranteed to release your post-holiday stress. 1750 Geary St., 415-922-6000

Beauty Back-Up

New Year’s Eve parties are the perfect excuse to go completely over-the-top glam. And that includes your make-up. But if your creative coloring skills cause passersby to wonder if you’ve just come from your performance under the big top—not, by the way, the desired effect—turn to Shu Uemura. On December 28, the Japanese cosmetic company’s Fillmore boutique will be hosting one-on-one consultations with celebrity make-up artist Gina Brooke, who’s created looks for such glamzillas as Madonna, Naomi and Giselle. Here, you can go for a pre-party test run with those foxy cheek-grazing faux fur diamante lash extensions or a dramatic red-hot lip with beauty back-up on hand.

Ice Princess

On Saturday, I had the opportunity to chat with Sasha Cohen, the 2006 Winter Olympics silver medalist, who breezed through town to perform at the Embarcadero Center ice skating rink en route to Russia for the Stars on Ice tour. The figure skating expo (which also featured a local youth synchronized skating troupe, the Tremors) was part of Starbucks’ Spread the Holiday Cheer promotion and fundraiser for the non-profit music organization Little Kids Rock.

North Meets East

December is only half way through and like most monthly magazine editors, I’m already getting close to wrapping up our February issue. Those of you planning a trip to Tahoe will want to check out my fashion piece on cool snow gear. But for those skiing and boarding enthusiasts, who are already heading north for the holidays, stop by The North Face (180 Post St., 415-433-3223) this weekend for its limited edition NSE collection.

Party Perfect

It’s that time of year again when I’m fielding those ubiquitous what-to-wear-to-the-office-holiday-party questions from family and friends. Is an LBD too expected? Is this mini-dress a little too mini? Is cleavage ever ok? (The answers to the questions should be no, probably and “definitely not.”)
