It's been rainy and a bit dreary here in San Francisco this week, so I've been catching up on my reading! This week on Sfgirlbybay's Stylish Seven, I'd like to share some great reads I've found of late. Some wonderful DIY books, and some new design publications and blogs I've been checking out. So curl up with a cup of tea, light a nice fire and settle in for a bit of bookish goodness.
Perhaps you're always on the hunt for unusual and unique finds around the bay area but aren't sure where to track them down. You might not have time to scour the flea markets, but crave that vintage-inspired, creative look. Well, in this week Sfgirlbybay's Stylish Seven, I'm sharing with you seven of my favorite shopping haunts around the city for one of a kind gifts, artwork, accessories and home wares. You don't have to travel far to give your home that eclectic, well-traveled artistic bent. Look no further than your very own nearby San Francisco neighborhoods.
If you ever read my blog, sfgirlbybay, you might have realized I'm kind of obsessed with photography. I was actually a photography major in high school, working back then in the school darkroom, and loving the smell of those chemicals, and beautiful old SLR cameras. I still love those vintage cameras, as I know many of you do...and even though you can't find film for some of them, they still make for some interesting, decorative objets d'art. This week on Sfgirlbybay's Stylish Seven, I'd like to share my love of photography. The web is a great resource for seeking out great photography, whether it's simply for inspiration, or perhaps some afforable artwork for your walls. Here's some of my favorites.
Pip, pip...cheerio and all that! In this week's Sfgirlbybay's Stylish Seven we're off to London Town! I found the airfares to the United Kingdom are quite affordable these days, so I'm in the midst of planning a May trip to London. So, in that spirit, I thought I'd share a bit of the brilliant and stylish Brits with you today.
It would seem that Spring has sprung, or at the very least its trying really hard! The Cherry Blossoms came out bright and early this year and color is everywhere I look. So this week's Sfgirlbybay's Stylish Seven is all about color and lots of it!
1. It's time for a Spring fling! Dust off the patio furniture, invite some friends over and get your best apron out. In need of a new one? Check out the vintage-inspired aprons from Red Velvet Art - a new online shop created by three very crafty girls, filled with homemade and stylish goodness.
This week I'm feeling my inner homebody looming large. More than ever, there seems to be a resurgence of spending more time nesting, and entertaining at home. The economy's got everyone a bit down, I know, but there's also an upside to slowing down a little, spending more time with family and friends within the confines of your own comfy dwelling. You can take pride in the smallest tasks, like canning & preserving, or painting a room a sunny bright color, or washing your linens by hand in some lavender scented water. It feels good to get back to the basics and appreciate the simpler things in life. So this week in Sfgirlbybay's Seven for 7x7, we're taking some time out for a few moments of zen.
Local design blogger Victoria Smith (you may know her best by her SFGirlByBay handle) begins her once-weekly exclusives, aptly titled, the Seven for 7x7, today. Correct us if we're wrong, but we suspect that her first post was inspired in part by the recent influx of rain-heavy clouds over our fair city. If being rained-in means getting to wrap up in her recommended vintage wool cape, then may the deluge continue.
