Bay Area Sports Beat: What You Need to Know Right Now

That once-familiar look of Colin Kaepernick smooching his bicep wasn’t entirely forgotten, but it was certainly a welcome sight for 49ers fans who have been waiting for the, umm, “romantic” embrace.

Kaepernick, whose legs have largely been kept in check after his breakthrough last season, ran wild against the Tennessee Titans on Sunday as the 49ers continued their recent dominance.

In a convincing 31-17 victory, Kaepernick enjoyed a resurgence running in a performance reminiscent of yesterseason. He had a season-high 68 yards rushing, including a 20-yard touchdown scamper to give the 49ers a 17-0 lead in the second quarter.

The 49ers rode that momentum along with a stout defensive performance to a 24-0 lead in the third quarter.

And after the 49ers stumbled to two consecutive uninspiring defeats to Seattle and Indianapolis, San Francisco has ripped off four wins in a row and in doing so look much more like the team that nearly won the Super Bowl last season.

With two stalwart offensive weapons set to make their season debuts in the near future, it has some licking their chops at this team’s potential.

“We’re coming,” running back Frank Gore told The San Francisco Chronicle. “We’ve got a lot of guys out, but this team is special. … When we have Mario (Manningham), Crab (Michael Crabtree), (other guys) come back who haven’t been playing, it’s going to be crazy.”

Get excited, you guys. Next week the 49ers visit the winless Jacksonville Jaguars (0-7).

Bro move, Barry. Bro move.

It was already well documented that Barry Zito is quite a bro.

But last week, Zito continued to endear himself to Giants fans, something of a trend in the latter years of his 7-year contract in San Francisco.

A surprising playoff hero in the Giants’ 2012 World Series run, the now-free agent took out a full-page advertisement in the Chronicle to thank San Francisco and its fans for supporting him.

It’s. So. Close.

Fresh off a playoff run that had the Bay Area in a consistent state of party mode (what’s new?), Warriors fans were able to scratch that Warriors-related itch this week as the promising team took to the court for the first time.

Sure, it was just somewhat meaningless preseason basketball in China, but it’ll suffice…for now.

Golden State took part in two promotional preseason games against the Los Angeles Lakers, winning them both, and seeing an improvement in health in the process.

Andrew Bogut, Jermaine O’Neal and Toney Douglas are all back on the practice court after setbacks in China that made them miss parts of the action.

The official season opener is a week from Wednesday when the Warriors play host to the Lakers.
