bkr: Anti-Plastic Beauty in a Bottle

bkr: Anti-Plastic Beauty in a Bottle

By

Everyone knows that Coke tastes better in a glass bottle. Mexican Coke, as it's most commonly referred to. So it makes sense that water tastes best in a glass bottle too. This was only one idea behind bkr, a San Francisco-born reusable water bottle company that outshines the rest.

Taking the anti-plastic reusable bottle crusade a step further, bkr has fused saving the planet and smart design into one 16 oz silicone wrapped, dishwasher safe bottle. Klean Kanteens and Nalgenes are cute, but bkrs are beautiful.

Started in 2011 by two ex-lawyers, bkr encourages consumption awareness, while proving that you can live a sustainable life in style. If you are eating organic and driving a Prius and going paperless—or all of the above—you should also be aware of overpopulated landfills, the growing gyres in our oceans and the toxins that contaminate the contents of heated plastic bottles.

The slick, bubbly bottles retail for $28 and come in a kaleidoscope of colors, from whimsical brights to masculine grays. The Fog color is so San Francisco appropriate, but choose to go Canary and contribute to the Canary Foundation. A portion of the rest of bkr sales go toward the Obakki Foundation.

As for the bottle, it looks dainty, but it's still strong. However, this is one water bottle that is best for city jaunts, not extreme adventures. It is FDA approved, BPA-free and phthalate free. I witnessed a bkr fall from a tall ledge onto a hard floor and there was no mess about it.

And to answer one last question, it's pronounced beaker, like from science class.

Purchase bkrs online or at Toss Designs on Chestnut Street, Propeller on Hayes or the Beauty Company on Polk, among other select retail outlets.
