Fly With The Raveonettes at Bimbo's Tonight

The Raveonettes

Let the dreamtime vocals and metallic synths wash over you. Wallow in Ray Orbison romanticism and Link Wray guitar-tough cool. NYC-by-way-of-Copenhagen duo the Raveonettes have strayed a bit as of late, away from the eerily claustrophic shoegaze bubblegum of the Jesus and Mary Chain, though the psychotic melodies remain on the twosome’s latest, In and Out of Control (Vice).

We caught up with Sharin Foo and Sune Rose Wagner via e-mail on the cusp of their SF show Monday, Nov. 9, at Bimbo’s 365 Club.

7x7: Did you embark on In and Out of Control with any goals in mind?

Sune Rose Wagner: No goal except to make a brilliant album using any means necessary.

7x7: You've worked with amazing people like Ronnie Spector, Maureen Tucker and Martin Rev on recordings in the past. No guests on this album?

Sharin Foo: No guests this time, but our producer Thomas Troelsen is featured here and there.

7x7: What does control mean to you?

SRW: Something you wish you had more of at times.

7x7: "Boys Who Rape (Should All Be Destroyed)" has quite the title and message -- do you have any personal connection to the subject?

SF: It's tragedy surrounded by bubblegum. The juxtaposition with the music makes the lyrics even more confrontational.

7x7: What does "D.R.U.G.S." -- another song from In and Out of Control -- stand for?

SRW: It stands for Deranged Rebels Using Ghoulish Substances. It's a depiction of someone really strung out.

7x7: Any word on your Gretsch, which was stolen during a US tour?

SF: My Gretsch hasn't surfaced as of yet. But I heard that Sonic Youth had some stolen gear show up six years later, so I haven't given up hope.

The Raveonettes perform Monday, Nov. 9, 8 p.m., at Bimbo's 365 Club, 1025 Columbus, SF. Crocodiles open. $25.

I could be a tragedy surrounded by bubblegum, just for you. Would love to see them upcloseandpersonal for rocking out at wonderful Bimbos!! Let's get this party started..SF style!
I remember them from days gone by. Love them. Would love to rock with them for an evening.
I need to be at this show because it will be an amazing break from my horrible yuppy routine of working extraordinarily long hours at a low paying job for an internet start up; I never win anything, so please help me spice things up!
Because all I want before I die is to see The Raveonettes in concert, and the Make-A-Wish Foundation won't return my calls because I'm not technically dying.
Out of a lot of contemporary musical duos, they are in my Top 5. I have yet to see them live. Make my wish come true otherwise I'll be that depiction of D.R.U.G.S.
Would like to see if Carla Azar (Autolux) is still sitting in with the duo. Kind of hoping she makes the trip up from LA. She added some fire.
