Hear, ye! Hear, ye! We may very well have found the perfect San Francisco shoe – no easy feat in a town where hills, fierce winds and flirtatious pockets of summer sun are all in a day’s walk.
The hot-stepper we’ve set our sights on is an open-toe, open-heel leather boot courtesy of local footwear designer Martha Davis, whose wedge-heavy debut collection ($270-$750) for spring summer 2009 has garnered much praise since its launch earlier this year.
“I couldn’t find the right stuff to wear in this crazy climate. It’s been really great to have that as a problem to address,” explains Davis, who leans on her 15+ years of experience in industrial and high-tech product design to create her highly sculptural, yet easy-to-wear women’s shoes.
While Davis is not, admittedly, the first or the only designer to play with the open-toe, open-heel boot silhouette of late, we love the Lower Haight resident’s version not simply for its year-round potential and local roots, but also for having a heel low enough for comfortable walking and a modern, streamlined silhouette that we could easily dress up or down.
“I’m always trying to balance the functionality and the beauty, and that’s kind of coming from my industrial design background….You have to make sure it works and make it desirable,” Davis tells us.
Along with Davis’s signature boot, the designer recently unleashed fall offerings upon local retailers such as San Francisco’s Harputs Market, Metier, Gimme Shoes, as well as Oakland’s McMullen and Walnut Creek’s Deliciouz.
Kick back with Davis’s latest in person during a trunk show tomorrow night from 6-9 p.m. at the Silverman Gallery, where Davis and local labels Serial Cultura, Michaela Greg and Stars + Ravens join forces to showcase recent collections and offer current items for sale.
