On Wednesday night, the city's tech and political luminaries gathered at chef Michael Chiarello's Coqueta to fete Crowdtilt'sinitiative to support the Bay Lights. The evening raised awarness about Leo Villareal and Ben Davis's iconic light display on the San Francisco-Oakland Bay Bridge, which, unless enough money is raised, will turn off in March 2015.
Crowdtilt founder James Beshara, who spoke about his personal relationship with the Bay Lights, announced a new fundraising plan that will help keep the stunning art installation twinkling well into the next decade. Other notable attendees included Mayor Ed Lee, Crowdtilt investor Ron Conway, and Bay Lights visionary and artist Ben Davis and Leo Villareal.
Guests enjoyed signature Coqueta hors d'oeuvres and cocktails, a number of small-scale art pieces inspired by the Bay Lights, and a gaggle of LED-lit ballerinas accompanied by violinist Gabi Horzwarth. The enthusiasm for the installation was palpable along with renewed hope for its continued presence as a San Francisco institution for years to come.
