Live Music This Week: Justin Bieber, Junior Boys, and More

By

While it seems like all of San Francisco is living it up in Austin this week, us leftovers should have no problem enjoying world-class music in the comfort of our own hometown venues.

Monday: Junior Boys at Mezzanine

Before we get into the brilliance that is Canada-based duo Junior Boys, don't overlook opener Jessy Lanza, one of the most captivating voices we’ve seen in the last few years. While Junior Boys has been around the block a bit longer, a five-year absence had devotees wondering, "You guys still doing this or what?" Indeed, they are. And thank goodness! Their new LP Big Black Coat is one of the most captivating electro albums of the year, earning praise from Pitchfork, NPR, and more.  // March 14: $18-23, Get tickets here

Thursday: Leon Bridges at Fox Theater

Sometimes, the fast track to success is super fast. The rise of Leon Bridges is well documented by now, but it still bears repeating: the doo-wop revivalist was washing dishes just two years ago before dropping his irresistible debut album Coming Home last summer. Now he’s playing the Fox Theater. // March 17: Get tickets here

Friday: Justin Bieber at Oracle Arena

It’s the Biebs in Oakland. Start practicing your dance moves. // March 18: Get tickets here

Saturday: Loreena McKennitt at The Masonic

For over 30 years Loreena McKennitt has introduced (and re-introduced) Celtic music to the world. As timeless art forms go, nobody has been able to keep Celtic music fresh and relevant better than McKennitt. Her audiences range from Carnegie Hall's season ticket holders to Queen Elizabeth II, and her accomplishments include a Grammy Award nomination and 14 million albums sold worldwide. In other words, Celtic music is in good hands. // March 19: Get tickets here

Saturday: Future at Event Center Arena

The Future is here and he doesn’t stop. In the span of seven months, the rapper has produced THREE number-one albums. According to Forbes, he’s “managed to hit the top spot three times in a row, but he has done so in less than three months, which is (almost) a record.” Insanity. // March 19: Get tickets here.
