Tuesday: Givers at The Independent

The celebrated, Southern indie-rock oddballs made a modest, promising splash with their 2011 debut album In Light, selling out SXSW shows and earning plaudits from tastemakers galore. Then, for about two years, silence. Until now! The long-awaited sophomore album, Bermuda, is due out this fall. Peep the first single from the album below.

Wednesday: Courtney Barnett and Tony Molina at The Fillmore

The most thoughtful rocker on the airwaves right now, Courtney Barnett has a ceiling-less future. She’s already evolved from garage rocker to capable pop-punk songstress, with her elaborately titled and executed Sometimes I Just Sit and Think and Sometimes I Just Sit. The album—one thrilling riff after another —can be counted safely among the year’s best rock records. Oh, and local hardcore legend Tony Molina is co-headlining and should be on any Bay Area music snob’s must-see list.

Few venues fit the artist like Florence Machine fits the Greek Theatre. No walls, no ceilings, just Florence Welch’s voice and her worshippers and the heavens above. Strawberry Canyon begs for vocal chords like these. Also appropriate: FATM ushering out the dog days:

Thursday: DIIV at The Fillmore

DIIV, one of the more promising buzz bands of the past 5 years, is ready to make good on their promise. A new single, a forthcoming album, and gigs at venues around the country represents a chance to re-consider chillwave a few years removed from the height of the trend.

Friday: Django Django at The Regency Ballroom

You really need to listen to Django Django if you haven’t already. They're kinda nuts, but in a charming, sophisticated, poppy way. The British art rock band are on tour in support of their brilliant sophomore effort Born Under Saturn, a sprawling, intensely- imaginative collection of high-concept songs.
