The Beat Museum's Beatnik Shindig

What: San Francisco's historic Beat Museum is throwing the event of the decade for every Beat literature aficionado in the land. This weekend's event is the biggest Beat Generation gathering in twenty years, inspired by Allen Ginsburg's famous NYU gathering in 1995. The weekend is packed with events including presentations by local comedians, scholars, and writers, and a Hudson Car Show. Plus, live poetry and live music provide entertainment for every Kerouac or Cassady junkie. A full schedule of events can be found here

When: The conference kicks off with pre-parties at Warby Parker on Thursday, June 25 and Friday, June 26 (by invitation only), but the literary knowledge will flow from 9am to 11pm on Saturday and Sunday.

Where: Fort Mason houses the daytime events—click here for lectures and speakers—while evening conference attendees can trace the paths of the Beat Generation throughout North Beach.

LISTEN

Alice's Summerthing

What: Kick back with some chill vibes at Alice @ 97.3's Summerthing, an annual free concert in Golden Gate Park. This year's fest will feature Kelly Clarkson, Mat Kearney, Rachel Platten (of undeniably catchy and girl-powery "Fight Song" fame) and Elle King. What could be better than a free concert in the green expanses of Golden Gate park?

Where: Relax on the grass at Sharon Meadows at the corner of Kezar and JFK Drives.

When: Doors open at 10:30am on Sunday, July 28. Elle King starts things off with the first set at 12:35pm.

The Dead 50

What: On the other end of the musical spectrum, The Grateful Dead are extending a final Fare Thee Well to legions of faithful Deadheads with a concert in Santa Clara this weekend. The Bay Area-based band returns to their roots for their final show, just a short distance away from the Palo Alto music store that heard the legendary musicians' first notes. Although tickets were sold out via mail order months ago, there still seem to be some floating around on Stubhub for as low as $30, dropping from the $13,000 they were selling for shortly after the concert announcement was made.

Where: Billy, Bobby, Mickey and Phil are performing for the last time at Levi's Stadium in Santa Clara.

When: The guitars will be broken out at 7pm on Saturday and 6pm on Sunday.

CELEBRATE

SF PRIDE Weekend

What: OK, OK, we were getting to it—this weekend features one of SF's most iconic events: PRIDE Weekend. The annual celebration of LGBTQ dignity and equality is a rollicking event and bucket list item for every SF resident. You could easily plan your entire weekend around PRIDE events—there's a whole host of parties, concerts, and shows, obviously highlighted by Sunday's parade. You could also check out the unaffiliated Dyke March or help set up the giant pink triangle on Twin Peaks in honor of gay victims of Nazi Germany. The Trans March also offers a chance to support a community on the forefront of social equality movements, as one of the largest trans events in the world. Take to the streets in honor of "Equality Without Exception" in a weekend full of SF traditions. For our best bets for the weekend, check out our 50 Ways to Do PRIDE Right
