Weekend Guide: High Tea, Corn Dog Day, and Art in Bloom

By

Lift your pinkie at high tea, get reacquainted with the corn dog, and experience living art this weekend.

Friday Afternoon Tea at The Palace Hotel

The Palace Hotel's signature Saturday tea is the go-to post-shopping recovery activity for locals and tourists alike, given its luxe presentation, refined dishes, and tendency to turn into an all-afternoon gossip fest. But now, in true SF format, the storied downtown hotel is rolling out Saturday tea's cool younger sibling: Tea Time. With a still-classy but more relaxed presentation, Tea Time doesn't require reservations and let you choose from a la carte items. Although Tea Time is offered on all weekdays, there's something especially elegant about trading a typical Friday happy hour for a sophisticated tea — especially when it's followed by a cocktail or three. 2 New Montgomery Street, San Francisco. Sunday through Friday: 2 - 5pm. Optional reservations available through Open Table and at 415-546-5089. (SoMa)

Corn Dog Day at SoMa StrEat Food Park

In our foodie city, it's easy to forget about the humble corn dog. Fortunately, the folks at SF Funcheap collaborated with SoMa StrEat Food Park to dedicate an entire Saturday to the traditional dish. Expect variations on the corn dog theme, including a gourmet corn dog (with honey batter), corn dog pizza, corn dog bites with jalapeno butter, and of course, Bacon Bacon's deconstructed corn dog (let your imagination run wild). If you go into corn dog overload mode, there will also be a few trucks offering Burmese food, frozen custard, and cotton candy. Saturday, March 22; 12 - 6pm. 428 11th Street (SoMa)
