Drink Here Now: Five Places to Sip This Week


1) New Digs and New Drinks for Loló
Beloved Mission neighborhood restaurant Loló has moved to a bigger, brighter location on Valencia, where there’s space for two bars and more seating. You’ll want to try the new Agave Bar, featuring specialty mezcal and tequila tastings.Each month, the Agave Bar will feature a rotating Vuelos de Mes (Flight of the Month), which includes three 1-ounce tastings of specialty mezcal and tequilas for $10 - $12. Loló bar managers David Gallardo and Leon Vasquez have also launched a new mezcal-focused cocktail program, serving drinks such as the Mezcal Mula (pomegranate-infused tequila, mezcal, ginger beer and bitters), the Gold Digger (mezcal, Yellow Chartreuse, tonic syrup and grapefruit bitters) and The Player (Cynar, rye whisky, grapefruit bitters and Anchor Steam). 974 Valencia, b/t 21st and Liberty

2) Retro Happy Hour with Retro Prices at Bergerac

Bergerac is bringing back the 70s with a retro happy hour every Tuesday through Sunday from 5 pm to 7 pm. Retro cocktails for $6 include Banana DaiquiriGrasshopperBetween the Sheets and Harvey Wallbanger. Draft beers are $4, well cocktails are $5, and house red and white wine is $6 a glass. If you’re drinking with a crowd, try the “Boogie Nights” Punch Bowl for $20 (5-7 servings). For $2 each, you can snack on some classic 1970s munchies, including Deviled Eggs, Pigs in a Blanket, Grilled Cheese and Tater Tots. 316 11th Street @ Folsom

3) Two New Spanish-Style Happy Hours

Siesta begins at 5 pm every day at Gitane, where you can enjoy complimentary bites from the chef when you order a cocktail, beer, wine or housemade Sangria. Spanish happy hour is served on Gitane’s heated patio and continues until the restaurant closes. If the small bites stimulate your appetite, you can always head inside for dishes such as Pork Rillette and Merguez Goat Sausage Flatbread. Canela Bistro and Wine Bar is also hosting a Tastes and Tapas Hour, every Tuesday through Sunday from 5:30 pm to 7:30 pm. 4) Sour Beers for SF Beer Week

If you like a little funk in your beer, you’ll want to kick off SF Beer Week this weekend at Monk’s Kettle and Abbot’s Cellar. Friday through Sunday, Abbot’s Cellar’s tasting menu will feature Chef Adam Dulye’s dishes paired with sour beers such as Cantillon, de Struise, Freigeist, Rodenback, Prof. Briem, Cuvee de Ranke, Tilquin and Drie Fonteinen. 5) Octopalooza at Aquarium of the Bay

You don’t have to be human to celebrate SF Beer Week. Next Wednesday, February 12,  some marine animals will be getting in on the act. Aquarium of the Bay is partnering with Pacific Brewing Laboratory to celebrate SF Beer Week with "Octopalooza." From 6:30 to 9:30 pm, patrons will find beer stations set up throughout the Aquarium serving Squid Ink India Black Ale, Nautilus Hibiscus Saison, Belgian Pear, Super Tramp, and barrel-aged Squid Ink. This means you can drink like a fish while participating in fun presentations and activities, including a silent disco, squid dissections, octopus enrichment and even a crafts area.
