In preparation for the year ahead, and for the New Year's Eve celebrations coming our way on Monday, we look to the East (Bay, that is) for ways to celebrate the past, present and future.

Wizard of Oz at The Paramount There's nothing like seeing an old classic on the big screen, and this screening of the Wizard of Oz has the added nostalgia element of the Paramount's amazing Art Deco interior. You may have to smuggle in popcorn, but on the plus side, you'll be able to buy a beer or glass of wine at the bar.

Renewing Yoga at Nyingma Institute What better way to wind down 2012 and prepare for the year ahead than a day of relaxing and restorative yoga at the beautiful Tibetan Nyingma Institute in Berkeley? The $80 ticket covers yoga and meditation from 10 am to 4:45 pm plus a healthy, vegetarian lunch buffet.

Nature Walk and Aquarium Feed at Crab Cove The aquarium at Alameda's Crab Cove is small but worth a visit, especially if you go at feeding time (afternoon) and if you leave time for a walk on Crown Beach to wander through the tide pools. This Sunday, the Cove is hosting nature walks and various events throughout the day to help ring in the new year, starting at 10 am and running until 3:30 pm.
