By

Top of the Heap
Top Chef obsessed fans (and we know you are legion) take note: on May 31 former contestants Jennifer Biesty and Stephanie Izzard, the season four winner, will partner up to prepare dinner at Scala’s Bistro, where Biesty is executive chef. While you eat the five-course meal, channel your inner Padma. To reserve your seat for the $65 dinner, call 415-395-8555

Culinary School
What better way to spend a Sunday afternoon than in the company of cheese and wine. On May 31 Bar Bambino owner and wine guy Christopher Losa and cheesemonger Colin Shaff will teach a two-hour class that explains how production affects the finished product, be it a well-aged pecorino or Barolo. Naturally, you’ll get to taste first-hand what they’re talking about. The class is from 3 to 5 p.m. and costs $45; to reserve your spot email events@barbambino.com or call 415-701-8466.

Something to Cock-A-Doodle-Do About
The chickens of Soul Food Farm are on the verge of cult status, beloved by chefs and farmers market patrons alike. On May 28 Citizen Cake is preparing a SFF chicken tasting, a three-course meal (plus dessert) highlighting the Soul Food birds via a liver mousse, fried chicken and breast in consommé. The meal is $45 per person ($65 with alcohol); call 415-861-2228 or visit the website to make a reservation.

Living on the Edge
If you have a kitchen full of dull knives and can’t cut a carrot into even pieces to save your life, then Peter Hertzmann’s book, Knife Skills Illustrated, is a must-have. Peter will be at Omnivore Books on Saturday, May 30, from 3 to 4 p.m. explaining the ins and outs of slicing and dicing.

Swap Meet
Cookbook lovers, don’t miss this cookbook swap at 18 Reasons on May 28. Bring in as many food-related books as you’re ready to get rid off, and trade them for ones you have been coveting—you can take as many as you bring! Wine will be provided, and any surplus books will be donated to Community Thrift at the end of the night.

Think Pink
On May 31 Piccino opens its doors for a day-long rosé festival. From noon until 9 they’ll be pouring the best pink wines from Italy, France, Spain and California—trust us, it’s not your momma’s white zin. Pizzas and salads will round out the offerings.

Fine Dining
Once again Dine About Town is sweeping the city—three-course lunches for $21.95, dinners for $34.95, served from June 1 to the 15. There’s a mighty list of participating restaurants, but for the most coveted reservations, head to the site right now to make your booking.
