By

Meat of the Matter
To celebrate the launch of their seventh issue (the pig issue), Meatpaper magazine is throwing a party at Camino in Oakland on Monday, April 27, from 6 to 9 p.m.. A crew of chefs will be on hand—they’ll be a pig-butchering demo, corn dogs and fresh sausages, pig tails, chicharrones, beer, cocktails and so much more. Tickets are $35 and must be purchased in advance—to get yours, click here.

Basquing in Good Food
Beloved Basque chef Gerald Hirigoyen, owner of Piperade and Bocadillos, will be entertaining and feeding the crowds at Omnivore Books on April 25 from 2 to 3 p.m. in celebration of the release of his new book, Pintxos.

Which Came First?

Piccino will be hosting a Chicken & Egg Dinner with Alexis Koefoed of Soul Food Farm on Sunday, April 26 at 6 p.m. The multi-course meal will feature Soul Food’s eggs and poultry and each course will be paired with wine; Alexis Koefoed will be on hand to discuss her farm and her birds. To book a table, call 415-824-4224.

Feeling Crabby

Now that summer is fast approaching, Nettie’s Crab Shack will be serving fewer crabs and a lot more clams. On Sunday nights, replacing the crab feed, the restaurant is now offering a clambake menu—salad, cornbread and a pot filled with mussels, clams, crawfish, prawns, spicy sausage and potatoes, and whoopie pies for dessert, all for $35. Clams that don’t cost a lot of clams! Count us in.

Brews You Can Use
If you’ve been thinking about going a little Laura Ingalls Wilder and doing some “urban homesteading” this class is for you. On April 28, Urban Peasant SF, together with Living Room Events, will be hosting a ginger beer and mead-making workshop. Award-winning home brewer Scott Mansfield will be leading the workshop—you’ll leave with a belly full of samples and recipes for making your own. Tickets are $35 and the event will be held in the Dogpatch kitchen of Living Room Events.

Linecook Podcasts
Beloved late-night devotees of NOPA, here’s your chance to hear a little behind-the-scenes banter among the chefs, delivered to you in the form of a podcast. Richie Nakano, cook and author of linecook415.blogspot.com has nine podcasts under his belt, covering such topics as Michael Bauer, the farm-to-table movement and SF restaurants. Download them all now and give it a listen.

Mina Markdowns
On Friday, April 24, long-awaited restaurant RN74 will open to the public at long last. We’re excited to see Mina’s version of a wine bar and restaurant come to life, lead by long-time Mina wine director Rajat Parr and chef Jason Berthold. Best of all, this is budget Mina: bar snacks under $15 (crispy duck wings, anyone), and entrees in the dining room that range from $15 to $17—plus weekly specials that include French stalwarts such as boeuf Bourguignon, coq au vin and bouillabaisse. 301 Mission St., inside the Millennium Tower, 415-543-7474.
