6 New Bay Area Restaurants to Try in May

Looking for somewhere new to eat? We've got you covered.

Lemonade

Los Angeles-based fast casual restaurant chain, Lemonade, is opening its first San Francisco location on Mission Street this week. The cafeteria-style restaurant boasts an eclectic, vegetable-centric menu that changes seasonally four times per year. Guests can grab a tray and choose from an array of hot and cold seasonal dishes such as smoked salmon with watercress; Spring asparagus with cherry tomatoes and tarragon salsa; or Lime beans with strawberries, smoked gouda, and red wine vinaigrette. Lemonade is also adding tossed leafy greens to their Bay Area menus, which includes Tatsoi and Mizuna lettuce with shaved heirloom carrots and honey roasted peanuts, and baby gem caesar salad. Plus, Yerba Buena is just the first of six more restaurants set to open in the Bay Area in 2016, including locations in Palo Alto, Walnut Creek, Burlingame, Sunset, and West Portal! // Opens May 5: 781 Mission St. (SoMa), lemonadesf.com

Mac Daddy

If the constant line outside of Homeroom in Oakland is any indication, the Bay Area loved mac-n-cheese, and will happily eat it for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. This week, SF got its own mac-n-cheese emporium with the opening of Mac Daddy on Potrero Hill in the old Chez Maman space. Among the dozen debut macaroni and cheese offerings will be Truffled Mac with shiitake mushroom, shaved black truffle, thyme, truffle oil and truffled Brie cheese; Pesto Mac with fresh basil, breadcrumbs, roasted pine nuts and Pecorino Romano cheese; Smokin Mac with apple wood smoked bacon, garlic, smoked cheddar cheese and jack cheese and Carbonara Mac with guanciale, peas, quail egg, shallots and Asiago cheese. Yum. // Opened May 2: 1453 18th St. (Potrero Hill), macdaddysf.com

Atwater Tavern

Take note, Giants fans: Atwater Tavern opened this week just steps away from AT&T Park. The new waterfront gem will feature a San Francisco-inspired menu including classic seafood options such as a raw bar, Crab Louie, cioppino, and steamed mussels as well as dishes cooked over a wood-fired Santa Maria grill. Located in a historic waterfront building, the 10,000+ square-foot location includes over 100 outdoor seats, bars on multi-levels, and an inviting outdoor deck. Laszlo

Laszlo, the classic bar connected to Foreign Cinema, got a very quiet, very chic remodel last month. Set to re-open on May 12, this is the bar's first and only renovation since opening 15 years ago. Along with the fully updated interior comes a tempting new bar bites menu, a film-inspired cocktail list, and a revitalized emphasis on local the DJ programming. The new look boasts prominent booth seating around the mezzanine and vintage European movie posters that bedeck the walls. Long-time DJs Felix the Dog, Saurus, and Delon will continue to spin along with a rotation of up-and-coming talent. With the redesign comes a revamped cocktail menu comprised of seasonal flourishes with a dedication to local craft spirits, and also offers a selection of lower ABV cocktails made with aperitifs and aromatized wines. Regulars will be excited to know that Foreign Cinema's full menu will continue to be available during dinner and weekend brunch. In addition, guests will be treated to a bar-only menu of global tastes (think: Madras Curry Fried Chicken "Sammies", Fried Pickled Mushrooms, and Sea Bass Ceviche Spoons). // Opens May 12: 2526 Mission St. (Mission), laszlobar.com

Delage

The newest venture from the owners of B-Dama is a sushi-focused restaurant right next door to Swan's Market. The restaurant (which seats around 20 combined between the bar and dining area) will only be doing omakase-style service, but Michelin-starred chef Masa Sasaki (Maruya) is doing the sushi, so you know it's good. // Opened April 27: 536 9th St. (Oakland)
