7 Food Finds
7 Food Finds
Check out these seven events, all happening this week.
1. What it Boils Down To
Simply prepared, delicious meats (capon, brisket, oxtail, tongue…) served with an array of sauces and paired with Paolo Sartirano’s selection of classic Italian wines. Where to find it: Sausalito’s Poggio Trattoria will be serving traditional Italian Bollito Misto dinner all this week, February 19-23rd for a very reasonable $19 per person.
2. Know This
One of the great chemists of our time is inspiring top chefs around the world, and his next stop is the Bay Area. Specializing in molecular gastronomy, bestselling cookbook author and French TV personality Hervé This will be giving lectures at COPIA in Napa on the 24th at 1pm (free with admission) and at Cellar 360 on the 26th at 5 pm ($40 gets discussion, wine tasting, and a signed book).
3. Food for Thought
On your lunch break this Friday, take a journey through American history via the long and winding intestinal highway. The Commonwealth Club will host Fred Kaufman, journalism professor and food enthusiast as he lectures on his new book, A Short History Of The American Stomach covering topics from Puritan purges to food porn.
4. Road Trip
The Oxbow Public Market, a very Ferry Plaza-like eat and drink emporium that’s taken up residence in Napa, awaits you—take a field trip to see how it measures up. While there, you can shop for wine, Fatted Calf charcuterie and Model Bakery bread, eat a Taylor’s Refresher hamburger (their third outpost is onsite) and sip Ritual coffee.
5. See Food Stay
If you like seafood and want it to continue to be available, drive across the bay to Fish Restaurant in Sausalito this Thursday the 21st to delight in Marin Organic’s Sustainable Seafood Dinner centered around our waters’ finest, while learning from experts about how we can ensure its existence for future generations. Plus, your $100 seat, which includes wine, also benefits the Marin Organic Salmon Safe Program.
6. Take a Long Lunch
Haven’t you heard? Lunch is the new dinner. All the kids are doing it. So go ahead, treat yourself to a good old-fashioned midday repast. Spork’s on the lunch tip, now, along with Epic Roasthouse and Waterbar…lunch at SPQR could be one way to beat the crowds, and Serpentine’s catering to the Dogpatchians.
7. Do Good
Why criticize bad fashion on television when you can do it in real life? The annual Academy of Friends Gala, held on Sunday, February 24th, includes dinner, a silent auction and, if the invitation is to be believed, a dance party, is held the same night as the Oscars, with proceeds benefiting 12 Bay Area HIV/AIDS organizations. Because at the end of the day, who really cares what Kidman’s wearing anyhow?
