Absinthe's Baker Shops His Wares at the Thursday Ferry Plaza Farmers Market
We all know what this first big rain storm of the season means: more are on their way. I'm ready, actually, for soup and for roasted root vegetables and for an end to tomatoes. It's OK. I think I'll feel even better about the change of seasons once I get my hands on a butter pecan scone with Rittenhouse whiskey glaze, or a fig-fromage blanc scone with honey glaze. Where to purchase such goodies?
Absinthe pastry chef Luis Villavelazquez will be setting up a booth at the Thursday farmers market at the Ferry Building starting next week (Thursday, October 22), and the aforementioned are just a few of the items on his opening menu. Also, unbeknownst to me, Villavelazquez has long been preparing the bomboloni (that's doughnut to us Americans) that have been sold at the Boriana stall within the Ferry Building, so those will be among the offerings at the market stand—filled with custard, chocolate, nutella, raspberry, as well as plain and, of course, maple-bacon varieties.
Also, cupcakes, which have recently become the pariah of the dessert world, will be available (except that these will be in flavors like cassis-filled cocoa nib with violet frosting and cream cheese-filled pumpkin with maple frosting, so take that, haters) along with cookies. Of the cookies, the one I am most excited about are the butterfinger peanut butter variety, because that makes sense. That will be delicious, I just know it. So bring on the rain. Armed with an arsenal of cookies, cupcakes, bomboloni and scones, I won't be afraid.
