The Most Anticipated Local Beer Releases for 2015

By

Instead of embarking on a post-holiday juice cleanse, we prefer to look ahead to some of the stellar new beers coming out from our favorite local breweries in 2015. Here are six of the brews we’re looking forward to most.

1. Russian Imperial Stout from Linden Street Brewery

Start the year off right with a brand-new beer from Linden Street, one of our favorite Oakland breweries. They’re making a Russian Imperial Stout for the first time (perfect for those short January days); they’re also canning two of their most popular brews to allow for wider distribution around the Bay (keep an eye out for their Hop Candi and Burning Oak Black Lager at stores near you).

2. Farmer’s Reserve Blueberry Sour from Almanac Beer

We can’t get enough of Almanac’s sour beers, and were thrilled to hear that they have more than a dozen(!) scheduled for 2015. They’re kicking things off with a blueberry sour, a blond ale brewed with berries from Chico.

3.  Cappuccino Stout from Lagunitas Brewing

We’re not sure whether to bless or curse Lagunitas for bringing this ”mondo coffee stout” back into our lives. As Ryan Tamborski of Lagunitas puts it, the 9.2% beer “will have you wondering whether you’re coming or going.” Up or down, we’ll take this bad boy.

4. Burrito Beer from 21st Amendment

This super hush-hush release from 21st Amendment will be the very first beer brewed in their brand new San Leandro factory, which was formerly a Kellogg cereal factory (the move will also bring their brewing operations back to the Bay Area). We do know that the packaging, design, and beer itself will pay homage to the factory’s Kellogg past, and will initially only be available in the Bay Area. Keep an eye out for developments this spring.

5. Saison Spring Ale from Anchor Brewing

San Francisco stalwarts Anchor Brewing are coming out with a brand-new seasonal beer this spring. Anchor Saison will be brewed in the traditional Belgian style with three distinctly California ingredients: lemongrass, lemon peel, and ginger.

6. Buzzerkeley Barrel Project, California Kiwi from Calicraft Brewing

We’re pretty obsessed with anything from the dudes of Calicraft — their creative, delicious brews have been some of our favorite finds lately. This year, they’ve got all kinds of fun on the agenda. As a continuation of their Buzzerkeley Barrel Project (in which their flagship brew is aged in Sauvignon and Zinfandel barrels), they're releaseing a Buzzerkeley edition aged in Sauvignon with kiwis from Swanton Berry Farm in Santa Cruz this summer. Oh, and they’re throwing a Beer Week party at Urban Putt with a screening of Caddyshack
