Drink Here Now: 5 Places to Sip This Week
1. Comstock Saloon Launches Honky-Tonk Sundays: If you're in search of a dose of Southern comfort, the Barbary Coast vibe at Comstock is going redneck on Sunday nights, with old-school country LPs and hearty blue-plate fare. In addition to the regular menu, sous chef and chili champion Abe Sanchez will serve up his famed bowl of red, fried chicken, and BBQ. Best of all, the fun coincides with Comstock's regular happy hour, featuring $6 beer-and-shot combos like Anchor Steam and bourbon, $6 Derby cocktails, and two-for-one snacks. (Sundays, 4 pm-2 am; happy hour daily, 4-7 pm, at Comstock Saloon, 155 Columbus Ave., North Beach.)
2. The Social Study Opens: The work-from-home laptop brigades in the Fillmore are rejoicing over the opening of this morning-noon-and-night spot, which pulls Four Barrel espressos in the a.m. and serves up local beer, wine, and "San FranGria" (pictured above) in the later hours. The adventurous (or caffeine-addled) can even try a cocktail that contains Guinness, four shots of espresso, and chocolate syrup. (Monday-Sunday, 8 am-11 pm; 1795 Geary Blvd., Fillmore District.)
3. Guinness Believer Evenings: Speaking of Guinness, the Irish brewing stalwarts are in town this week for a series of free tastings that explore the history of the brand and how to pour the perfect pint (with plenty of sampling along the way, of course). Sign up online and make a $5 donation to a local charity at the door, and they'll provide you with stout to spare. (Wednesday, January 25 - Friday, January 27, seatings at 6, 7:30, and 9 pm, at Terra Gallery, 511 Harrison St., SOMA.)
4. Headline Shirts Sample Sale: Is it time to replace some of the ratty T-shirts crowding your dresser? Local shirt designer Headline is offering a chance to replenish your T-shirt wardrobe for as little as $1 per shirt, and they're throwing in free beer and snacks while you shop. After checking out, head next door to the Uptown, where they'll be offering drink specials. (Thursday, January 19, 5-8 pm, at Headline Shirts, 3265 17th St. #104, Mission.)
5. Rosamunde's 2nd Anniversary Party: No plans tonight? Head over to the Mission location of Rosamunde to celebrate their second year of business in the neighborhood. They'll be pouring $1 Radeberger and Racer 5 and $2 Old Rasputin, leaving celebrants with plenty of change to blow on a sausage and some potato salad. (Wednesday, January 18, 5 pm-12 am, at Rosamunde Sausage Grill, 2832 Mission St., Mission.)
