Drink Here Now: 5 Places to Sip This Week

By

1. Heaven's Dog Launches New Cocktail Menu: Though it's the least touted member of Charles Phan's empire, Heaven's Dog (pictured at left) has a lot in common with its ultra-popular Valencia sister, Wo Hing General Store, including a nouvelle-Chinese menu and top-notch cocktails. To match Wo Hing pina-colada master Brooke Arthur, Heaven's Dog has brought on Rickhouse alum Trevor Easter, who's significantly altered Erik Adkins' original menu while maintaining a focus on drinks inspired by Charles Baker's 1939 Gentlemen's Companion. (Don't worry, the Shanghai Buck, a 7x7 Big Eat winner, is still in play.) Some of Easter's new creations include the Oaxacan Firing Squad (mescal, tequila, lime, grenadine, Angostura bitters) and the Wall Street (bourbon, notion, Punt e Mes, maraschino, winter bitters). (Monday-Saturday, 5 pm-1 am, Sunday, 4:30-9 pm, at Heaven's Dog, 1148 Mission St., SOMA.)

2. Twenty Five Lusk's Beer & Food Flights: If you're a beer aficionado who enjoys food pairings, it's worth checking out Twenty Five Lusk's current menu of Lagunitas flights and bites in their lounge. The $34 meal features three six-ounce pours of the Petaluma brewer's best: Lil' Sumpin' Sumpin' is matched with a mini grilled Comte cheese sandwich, cured squab, and balsamic raspberry; Hop Stoopid pairs up with prawn corn dogs with white corn remoulade and salted almonds; and Wilco Tango Foxtrot is served alongside a grilled ribeye with smoked cocoa, citrus salted sweet-potato fries, and a fried quail egg. They're also offering a $35 bottomless mimosa brunch on Mother's Day. (Beer menu: Wednesday, May 9 and Thursday, May 10, 5-10 pm; Friday, May 11, 5-11 pm. Brunch: Sunday, May 13, 11 am-2 pm, at Twenty Five Lusk, 25 Lusk St., SOMA.)

3. Broke & Classy: SF celebrity Broke-Ass Stuart is about to mark a decade of living cheaply on the Left Coast, and he's celebrating in true broke-ass style, with plenty of free stuff. The $3 admission includes gratis Negronis, oysters, hot dogs, and a photobooth, as well as live music by Judgement Day, Birds & Batteries, Rach W, and DJ Carnitas of Hard French. Dojo Dogs and the Creme Brulee Cart will be on the scene to feed hungry partiers. RSVP here. (Thursday, May 17, 8 pm-2 am, at Public Works, 161 Erie St., Mission.)

4. Bourbon Dinners at Jasper's Corner Tap & Kitchen: Like many of its fellow travelers in the top tier of SF bars (Bloodhound, Elixir), Jasper's has hand-selected its own barrel of bourbon-- this particular one's from Evan Williams. To celebrate the new arrival, the restaurant is offering a $50 prix-fixe cocktail dinner over three nights, with bacon-wrapped dates, a grilled pork chop, and glazed bourbon-brown butter bars topped with 4505 Meats chicharrones. Cocktails (included with the prix-fixe meal, or a la carte for $10 each) range from a spring sipper with Cynar, strawberries and mint to a bourbon flip with Guinness and creme de cacao. (Thursday, May 17-Sunday, May 20, 11:30 am-1 am, at Jasper's Corner Tap & Kitchen, 401 Taylor St., Union Square.)

5. Sliders and a Cocktail at Bourbon Steak: Also on the bourbon front, Michael Mina's Bourbon Steak (which took over his former spot in the Westin St. Francis when he moved to California Street) is offering a special May bar menu in honor of National Burger Month. $20 buys three sliders (a short rib burger, a bourbon burger, and a Kobe beef "double-double") along with a Kentucky Fats cocktail (orange-infused bourbon with bacon fat-infused Angostura bitters). Bring your appetite and your Lipitor. (Daily through the end of May, 5:30-10:30 pm, at Bourbon Steak, Westin St. Francis Hotel, 335 Powell St., Union Square.)
