Drink Here Now: 5 Places to Sip This Week
1. Quince Unveils New Lounge: If you can afford the indulgence, Quince has recently opened an ultra-luxe new lounge area, specializing in seafood and upscale bar bites. Royal Osetra caviar goes for $25 per 5-gram spoon, alongside oysters, a trio of crudos, a proscuitto platter, and other gourmet delights. Pair your snack with a glass of wine from their deep library, or a martini from the fully-stocked bar. (Monday-Saturday, 5:30-10 pm, at Quince, 470 Pacific Ave., Financial District.)
2. Presidio Social Club Turns Five: The charming Presidio Social Club (pictured above) is celebrating five years in business with a Sunday-afternoon bash, featuring $5 cocktails, free Roederer Estate sparkling wine, and complimentary bites like fried chicken, chicken liver pate, and beignets. Can't make the bash? They'll be offering $5 cocktail specials throughout February, featuring cocktails from their opening menu. RSVP here for the party; space is limited. (Sunday, January 29, 3-6 pm, at Presidio Social Club, 563 Ruger St., Presidio.)
3. Super Bowl Cocktail Competition: The 49ers may have taken themselves out of the running for the big game, but fans can drown their sorrows at this cocktail competition, where four bartenders will compete to make the best cocktail with Tres Agaves tequila. The winner will be decided by popular vote, so put on your favorite team gear and get sampling. Tickets are $5 in advance or $10 at the door, and all proceeds will benefit Project Open Hand. (Tuesday, January 31, 5:30-7:30 pm, at Royal Exchange, 301 Sacramento St., Financial District.)
4. Jazz Night at Monarch: New SOMA nightspot Monarch is known for its wild parties on the weekend, but they're taking it a bit more casual with their Monday jazz happy hour, featuring the Sam Rocha Trio. Staropramen beer is sponsoring the event, with $3 bottles all night at the lush, bordello-esque bar. (Mondays, 5:30-11 pm, at Monarch, 101 6th St., SOMA.)
5. Pickle Backs with Broke-Ass Stuart: Broke-Ass Stuart is known for being an author, a party-throwing maven, and most recently, a TV star; now, he'll add bartender to his list of qualifications. Dear Mom has hired Stuart to work the Wednesday shift, and he'll be serving up an East Coast favorite, the pickle back, for just $4. For the uninitiated, a pickle back consists of a shot of whiskey (Dickel in this case) with a shot of pickle juice (gourmet and provided by Wise Sons Deli) to chase it. You'll have to just trust Stuart on this one. (Wednesdays, 5:30-11 pm, at Dear Mom, 2700 16th St., Mission.)
