Drink Here Now: 5 Places to Sip This Week

By

1. Dixie Introduces Happy Hour: With summer Fridays in full effect, consider making a trip up to the Presidio for some quiet, greenery, and happy hour at newish Southern spot Dixie, whose food and cocktails were praised by our own Carolyn Alburger earlier this month. The restaurant's "Cocktail Hour" includes rotating $5 menu items (this week's has been fried chicken), as well as a $5 wine, cocktail, and beer, with offerings like the Georgia Lemonade (Buffalo Trace bourbon, peach liqueur, lemon, soda) and a bourbon-barrel-aged Widmer Brothers ale. (Daily, 4-6 pm, at Dixie, 1 Letterman Drive, Presidio.)

2. Vinyl Swap at Vinyl Wine Bar: With vinyl right there in the name, there's probably no better spot in SF to host a record swap than Vinyl Wine Bar. The Western Addition spot is teaming up with Groove Merchant Records and a bevy of local record dealers to host a Sunday-afternoon swap meet, complete with drinks like $2 Session lagers, $5 micheladas, and $6 mimosas. They'll spin funk, soul, and hip-hop while you browse. (Sunday, July 22, 12-6 pm, at Vinyl Wine & Coffee Bar, 359 Divisadero St., Western Addition/NOPA.)

3. Pizza and Pitchers with Del Popolo: Jon Darsky's Del Popolo pizza truck has been earning raves for its gorgeous, glassed-in design and tasty margherita pies, and this Thursday, it'll be pulling up at the American Grilled Cheese Kitchen for a collaboration with three California brewers: SF's Pacific Brewing Laboratories, Oakland's Linden Street Brewing, and Firestone Walker Brewing Company, out of Paso Robles. Order a pizza from the truck, grab a brew from AGCK (but be forewarned, Del Popolo will be offering the only cheese on bread for the evening), then bask in the sunshine on the restaurant's sizable patio. (Thursday, July 19, 5-9 pm, at The American Grilled Cheese Kitchen, 1 South Park Ave., SOMA.)

4. Oyster Tuesdays at Reed & Greenough: Though we may not be in a month ending in "r," this Marina cocktail spot is bucking the rules and breaking out some oysters every Tuesday, with six bivalves running for $9 and a dozen for $15. If you really want to get indulgent (or you're out with that special someone), $30 will buy you the Chandon Special: two glasses of Chandon Etoile brut and a dozen oysters. (Tuesdays, 5-8 pm, at Reed & Greenough, 3215 Scott St., Marina.)

5. Slow Sip Happy Hour at Terroir: With its exclusive focus on natural wines made with organic and dry farming techniques, indigenous yeast fermentation, and no chemicals, SOMA's Terroir has long been a destination for wine fantatics who like their vino made the old-fashioned way. So it's no surprise that Slow Food San Francisco is taking over the spot tonight for their monthly happy hour, where drinkers can converse about everything having to do with sustainable food (and booze). Tickets are $5, and proceeds benefit the Slow Food organization. (Wednesday, July 18, 5:30-7:30 pm, at Terroir, 1116 Folsom St., SOMA.)
